I was thinking yesterday about how I could construe the most powerful (in close combat terms) Old One build and I came up with this:

Sword of bloodshed + 3 attacks (60 points)
The Maiming Shield + 1 attack (30 points)
Venom of the Firefly Frog (all attacks are poisonous and magical) (10 points)
= 100 points of magical items

Cold one and light armour will give him a 1+ Save and the benefit of protection in a large unit of Cold One Riders.

An Oldblood has 6 WS, 5 S and 5 attacks.

This will result in 9 attacks at S 5 where he can auto-wound on 6's due to poison.

Other options would be to include a Magic Standard or two if you include a BSB. This could include Flaming attacks, Armor Piercing attacks, Cause Terror, +1 Combat Resolution or just protection from missiles.
Armor piercing would be great if you are up against heavily armoured enemies.

Thoughts?

Venom of the firefly frog only works on non-magical weapons.

Well color me blue-skinned... that sucks major Slann b... bones..

I'm digging the following build - add a cold one mount or a carnosaur for maximum nastiness

2400 Pts - Lizardmen Roster

Saurus Oldblood
1 Saurus Oldblood (Hand Weapon; Shield; Scaly Skin)

1 Sword of Strife +2 A
1 Armour of Fortune heavy armor w/5+ ward save
1 Luckstone reroll first failed armor save
1 Carnosaur Pendant frenzy when causes 1st wound

so thats 7 base attacks, 8 when he does a wound
