Hi my fellow Sauruians.

I'm new around here. But I frequent the pointy eared land of ulthuan.net under the same alias.

I'm having a friendly on the weekend and I need some help refining this list. Friendly means I'm not allowed to take stegadons, but I still want to kick ass.

I'd say take a Salamander or 2 walking alone instead of 3 Razordons.. Vampires/Woodies Don't like Template/fire.

I'd suggest some Saurus Warriors too..They maybe are not as fast as Skinks.. but a whole lot tougher. Also when a Warrior unit holds a unit you can crash into his side/rear with your skinks. It's dirty to hold someone and punch him in the sides tho.

Don't know why not able to take 1 Stegadon.. but kinda sad.. an EotG would tear down the VC/DoC pretty much.. also defending against the Woodz.

If you find the points.. just me being neurotic. Get a 4th Terradon ^^.
 
i also would like to know why you called it totally love noodles, i mean they are pretty nice and with some soy sauce MHMMMM infact *turns the hob on and gets a pack of noodles out the cupboard*.

Anyway i wouldnt recommend salamanders, they are good with there panic test rule, but it so hard to get a proper hit on things that are moving about, i think they are just to difficult to kill anything with. IMO stick with the razordons its up to you.
 
The best noodles you get in Japan from any 7/11, or you go to an Asian supermarket and get them. Instant Ramen is so good, just add an egg.

@WheelR; where do you suggest I find the points for a unit of saurus?

Also I'm probably going to stick to the razordons, they're more multipurpose. Sallies shine against ranked up units and that's about it.

How are my character set ups (this is what I'm having most trouble with)?
 
As I was halfway through reading the list critically to determine why the noodle reference was there, it dawned on me that maybe the point was to get more people to read the post! Well played sir.

The list I'm not so certain on. For the armies you will face, I would rather see saurus than the mixed cohorts. As anvil units, they are just asking to be slaughtered. Additionally, two of your opponents are playing "unbreakable" armies that require units to be wiped out rather than run-down. Saurus spears will serve much more effectively in this role. The extra speed of cohorts might be worth it vs. the elves though, as they usually play the movement game too well for slower troops. But on the flipside, Wood Elves only win combat through kills and not typically ranks, so the skinks provide them a perfect target.

As a source of points for your stout saurus, I suggest dropping the 3 razordons for 1 salamander with extra crew.

Ramen noodles must be very different in Japan... over here in the states Ramen is considered the staple food of broke college students in need of cheap nourishment! I've never tried an egg though, that might make it better. On a dare I once ate Ramen in the uncooked block-form (we called it a Ramen-bar). The conclusion of this little experiment was that it is always better to take the time to boil water, no matter how much of a hurry one is in.
 
My favorite is YumYum from Thailand..... With 2 eggs! (with a big bowl that ill work), soy sauce and a hint of chili (theres both chili and spices in small bags in the package)
 
Pho... filled with tripe, tendon, flank, and any other good stuff they have back there... toss a bunch of herbs and sprouts in... that's about as good as it gets in my book. Add Sriracha to taste.

So you guys were totally right about the skink cohorts.

I played a game against wood elves last night and lost. The skinks just handed my enemy combat resolution and the kroxygors didn't do enough damage to make up for this. Also it underlined something about skink cohorts, if you flank them, they're doomed - the only thing they've got going is static combat resolution.

I'm thinking of trying skink skirmishers next or maybe 1 skink cohort and some saurus warriors. I do like saurus warriors but they're a little pointless against a fear causing enemy. I'll have to do some research about how to field saurus. Jungle swarms seem pointless... how do you field core in a lizardmen army?!?


Onto noodles, YumYum sounds awesome, I must try that one day. Asian noodles best western noodles hands down. Us stupid westerners have no idea when it comes to good noodles.

Favourite noodle dish? Anything brown broth/soup that comes from japan. Has anyone tried Sukiyaki? It's a soy sauce/mirin broth that's so intense its hard to get through a bowl... so delicious though.

So i guess stay tuned and a revist list will be posted soon.
 
Not sure if they are useless against fear .. You just have to hit harder. Most of the time you lose 1 perhaps 2 warriors in a combat phase.. So you got like 16-18 hits back asuming you use spears. For example VC..They are not really hard in combat.. atleast skeletons aint. So you give some good punches back.

How did your Razordons do? Good enough to not take 2 salamanders instead?
 
Spear saurus kick ass. I like 11/1 skink/krox units (110 points for a fast unit that enemies perceive as a reasonable threat which can be used for flanking) but 16/2 is just too much for too little. Also skink/krox units are meant to be somewhat disposable so putting characters in there is not a good idea. I'd get some saurus then support them with 11/1 units. Also 15/2 is illegal, you need 8 skinks/krox, and the priests certainly don't count.

I think 11/1 skink/krox units really come into their own in 2k battles where they are semi-disposable support for a slann/tg and EotG where they are used to outmaneuver and force your enemy into position while your slann and EotG etc do the heavy damage. They can also be used as a light hammer for the wicked saurus spear anvil units also. Saurus spear anvils are just too good, they tend to win wars of attrition if they are 15 strong.
 
My razordons were relegated to flank and rear protection. They were the last unit that my opponent killed. They did ok, I'm still not sure about them. The thing I like about razors is their pretty good against most threats. This is different to salamanders which really shine against ranked formations of infantry, but suck against most else.

I like the idea of the 11/1 skink units. And thanks for pointing out that my old cohorts were illegal (embarrassing!), army builder failed to point this out.

I'm still not too sure about saurus units, I had a game where my 2 unit of saurus and 1 unit of temple guard got charged by a unit of ogres with bruiser and a unit of iron guts. Everything broke except the temple guard who miraculously rolled snake eyes. And a vast chunk of my army broke and fled. It was not a pretty sight. What could I do to stop this with a saurus heavy army? Also, how would i deal with a black coach?

I play high elves so I'm not sure how to handle slow moving units that actually care if you get a charge off against them. In a general case, do you move forward, accept the charge and hit them with your hammer units? Do you move forward, flee from the charge then counter charge with your other units? Or do you stay back, flank with faster units as much as possible and prevent contact with your saurus core? With high elves I usually play option 3, because while my infantry kick ass, they're really my trump card rather than my starters.
 
Hokay, so here's my revised list. I'm not at all sure at how effective its going to be. I originally was thinking that I would only take a lone skink chief with a diadem and a scroll, and fill the rest out with saurus characters. But I couldn't really come up with a combination that suited me.

Has anyone had any experience with a saur-pedo?

So I'm pretty much doing the same with my units, trying out salamanders and saurus warriors again. The real idea is with the heroes (i.e. the saur-pedo) I think I'd rather take just one skink priest and have my scar-vet with my warriors though, does anyone know of a good build for this?
 
First of all. Drop the Terradon Rider Brave.. im sure you get to spend 20 pts way better than just 1 BS more wich most probably will not be that big an advantage.
I used a "Saur-pedo" today vs a dwarf.. It was a fun sight to see it shoot right into his cannon instant killing it. Sadly he got shot down by other cannons right after.*sob*

If you want a skink priest just for dispells.. then only give him that and make sure it is not charge-able or shootable cause it will die unless you got some Taoist skink but i've rarely seen one. Not sure if you should boost him to LV 2 for it though.

Perhaps you can take a second scar vet with you. Im still experimenting myself what would be good to bring with one.. i used BBoC+Maiming shield wich is kinda just straight forward.. 5 Str 5 Flaming attacks giving a -4 AS. I still like that one the most.

I'd say Good Luck with the Salamanders.. Hope you like them.
 
Bane head is really not worth it on a skink priest as heavens magic can't really be used to snipe realiably. Best used on a slann with something like metal or a killy scar vet/oldblood in this case who has a nice magic weapon (or just don't use it at all). It really is a waste on the priest.
I like the list overall, though i must say one thing. Everything in your army is nice and fast except the saurus, so careful they don't get left behind somewhat.
Also a brave isn't worthwhile on the terradons, but some command bits might be nice on the cold ones. Jag saurus is good fun.
Personally i'd forego the heavens magic and keep a priest with a scroll/diadem or rod and then get one or two scar vets, maybe one of them as a bsb as the rerolls are so nice with cold blood. If you do make a bsb saurus dont bother with a magic banner, get items if anything. I like my scar vet on a CO but jag does look really fun.

Umm I don't think the maiming shield attack gets the chotec advantage as it "confers +1 attack to the bearer. This additional attack is worked out using the base strength of the wielder, and counts as magical." while the burning blade says "targets struck by the burning blade of chotec suffer a -2 penalty to their armour save in addition to any modifiers from the user's strength"

I'm not certain and I did ponder this for a good long while when considering builds myself but I think this means the extra attack doesn't get -2
