I've nearly finished painting all my models, I see my next step as making terrain and converting and I would love to be able to sculpt.

So could you list the tools you use, you may have already done this but I'm too lazy to look back :D

With pictures too please ;)

First you ask him to make a list, and then you caveat with pictures. @Crowsfoot .... You need to butter him up before trying to steal all the details

I have listed and posted piccies, laziness my friend is no excuse, so get looking. *pokes*
 
If you need something to sculpt a different EoTG model might be really cool. I love the current one but new perspectives on it might be really cool. EoTG is one of my favorite models.

Oh I have a list and a half of things to do, being bored, or having nothing to do are not problems I encounter. ;)
Top of my list at moment is fixing my dodgy hip, two x-rays so far. D:

Hope the hip is more than on the mend!

Just wanted to say how much I admire you’re work! So very talented indeed. I know you said it’s not talent but practice however I disagree. You certainly have a certain artistic flair that really makes you’re sculpts pop.

Thank you for the compliment, I do appreciate it, however.....My overall stance on the word talented still hasn't changed.
I think of it more of a back handed compliment rather than praise.

For the following example I'm going to substitute the word "helicopter" for "talent"

There's a notoriously difficult mountain in some country somewhere, it's 10,000 feet high.
First man - Climbs unassisted from the base, taking all provisions with him.
Second man - has talent, and so starts his climb with considerably fewer provisions lands at the 9000 foot mark, climbs the last 1000 feet and then back down to his talent.

The second man is less exhausted, less tired, has less weight to carry because he has not had to put the same level of effort in as the other man.

When both men are talked to about their trek, people remark on what an achievement they've accomplished, until the first man (understandably irritated at this point), shouts "Stop praising him! He didn't go through the same struggle as I did, because he has talent!"


Being told you are talented, or have talent is effectively like being told that in some way, shape or form, you have it easier than other people, that the effort and time invested isn't as arduous or laborious as that put in by other people. To add to this context, as someone who has Autism AND ADHD, I get rather miffed when I hear those words being used because being Neuro-diverse in a Neuro-typical society/world IS arduous, exhausting, draining and a challenge, every single day.

As stated I haven't taken offense from your compliment, because I know you've intended it as a compliment and I am grateful for it. The above rambling is more of an attempt on my part to explain why I don't like the word talented.


As for my own personal mental processings on sculpting, I still think a huge chunk of it (certainly the "meat and potatoes" of it) is down to a problem solving element:

"I want to create X, so how can I do that?" - good example would be what I've said regarding layering, or building your sculpts up in tons of little layers.

Think of it like encountering a problem, how can you best solve the issue?
There doesn't always have to be just one way of fixing it and not all methods are as hard, or effective.

It's something that helps with riddles on occasion (take the example below, NOTE: no prizes, ESPECIALLY no chocolate bars if you get it).

Two people eat EXACTLY half a chocolate bar, but one person eats more than the other, how is this possible?

Sounds like sculpting is a lot like programming. That is, lots of problem solving and reaching out to your carefully built over the years workshop and experience. And nobody says you are a talented programmer. They rather say you are an experienced programmer.

And finally it made me very interested in the topic, or certainly something I have to try when I paint all I wanted to paint ;)
