A lot of people ask me how I paint the skin of my Skinks so I decided to make a small tutorial.

Let's go!:

In case you prefer pictures, I HAVE THOSE TOO!

1- Undercoat with a white spray, I use Corax White from GW

2 - Basecoat with the amazing Baharroth Blue (love it)

3 - Wash with a 3:1 mix of Lahmian Medium and Temple Guard Blue

4 - Wash with a 2:1 mix of Lahmian Medium and Coelia Greenshade

5 - Wash the scales with a 3:1 mix of Lahmian Medium and Kantor Blue

6 - First Highlight on the skin is Baharroth Blue

7 - Second Highlight is pure Ulthuan Grey, applied as a heavy Glaze, no mixing whatsoever. Except for the tail all is done with a single brushstroke for each Highlight, tail has two to emphasise it. Key to this technique is how you move your brush, paint will deposit more where the brush stops so you MUST move the brush from the darkest point to the place where you want the most highlight to be.

Hope that it's helpful!

Thanks for watching!!

It's right there, I use for the first one a 3:1 mix of temple guard blue and Lahmian Medium and for the second a 2:1 mix of Coelia Greenshade and Lahmian Medium. Not really sure what more to say, they are all Citadel paints

ok i misunderstood because i couldn't find the temple guard wash and thought you had to dilute it yourself thank you for your patients.

Oh yes, you have to dilute it yourself with Lahmian Medium, same goes for the Kantor blue for the scales. I use the Medium a lot, what I do to speed thing up is pre-mix my washes into dropper bottles and then just use them from there, much, much faster.

Also Coelia Greenshade is a wash BUT you still need to dilute it with Medium too! Otherwise it's too strong and you will ruin the model.

Hi @Itepixcauh, I'm interested in painting lighter bellies for my skinks and saurus. I'm definitely going to try using your tutorial. So, based on your steps & color choices, I thought about using Ulthuan Grey for the underbelly of my skinks. How might you add that in relation to your steps? After the Baharroth Blue base, and wash it with both the Temple Guard wash & Coelia shade (or would those washes just obliterate the Ulthuan)? After the first Baharroth highlight? Or would you just paint it on after and wash/shade it separately?

Thank you.

Hi!

That is a very good question, this is how I would do it:

- Basecoat with Baharroth
- Wash with Temple Guard blue

*****
- Now I would paint the underbelly completely with Ulthuan
*****

- Wash all over with the Coelia mix, but be very sure no pooling is happening on the Ulthuan areas, we want a very subtle shading
- Follow the rest of the steps as usual but for the underbelly do this:

- Apply Ulthuan Grey again, leaving the shade in the recesses
- Highlight with a white of your choice.

Hope that helps!

How many times can I like this? Thank you VERY much for sharing your advice. I'll give it a try.
