Blog Hojdars paint log. The quest continues + more skinks!

So... much... heresy!

I never noticed those tzeetch-masks before, they almost look like goblin Bad Moonz.

Thanks for all the kind comments!

I agree on most of your painting comments, such as defining the Kroxigor scaled better. But I have decided to focus on painting faster while trying to remain at the same painting quality. I've found it quite pleasing trying to paint faster actually and I do recommend it. Got inspired by Bob Ross' Joy of Painting and changed my painting philosophy a bit.

I've deliberately made the acolytes pale as I imagine they don't get much sun where they came from. I also want them to be different from the Khorne guys included in WQ which I intend to made dark skinned. Also the acolyte helmets are supposed to look bird-like, like Tzeench I imagine. They do remind me of Bad Moon Goblins tho, cannot be unseen :D

I actually didn't know that my Stormcast was an actual paint scheme, I just made that up!

@Lord-Marcus The blending is "just" done by adding a good chuck of water to the paint. It also helps to paint quickly the the first paint doesn't completely dry before adding the second. Sometimes I even use the "loaded brush" technique, which is dipping the tip of the brush in the second paint and then blend the colors directly on the miniature. I'm sure there was a post about it here some time ago, otherwise look up "Painting Buddah Stormcast" on youtube, great vid for that effect!

Also in the spirit of "speed painting" and 2K armies I might take some step by step photos or even a vid of me painting some 50-ish skinks yellow. I've gotten the air-brush paints ready so just need the time to do it. Hopefully in not too long!

I completely forgot to add the pictures of my Slann that i entered in the recent competition here on the forums!

It was actually a coincidence that I joined at all. I had felt the lizards-itch and ordered the Slann online just a couple days before the competition was announced so i though why not! I'm kinda pleased with the results even though I rushed it a little. The idea behind him is that he was touched by chaos a long time ago, maybe during an invasion or battle in or old world, or maybe he just fell in a cauldron of chaos stuff when he was young. As a result he is a little odd and has been alienated by the other Slanns. He (or she?) doesn't mind though and is perfectly content doing his own things and following his plan that nobody really gets besides himself. Also he forgot what Saurus looks like which is why his forces consists only of skinks and beasts.

More to come soon!

As stated in that contest thread: awesome work

Beautiful work, I feel like I have seen a similar paint scheme before, not sure where... but I like how it turned out! Especially the eyes.

Just gonna throw in a quickie here. Started up on some new skinks and updated their paint scheme a little compared to what I started with a long time ago. I took some WIP pictures in case you're interested in the process. I finished one and the rest are currently in the washing phase. I'm trying to get good quality on these without taking too long or trying new stuff out. Going for what I know so I'm actually able to finish these.

1. Finished model
2. White primer.
3. Yellow base.
4. green scales
5. Woods, leather, stone and gold colors.
6. Yellow wash for skin and brown for weapons and accessories.
7. Skin touch up, eyes and highlights on Scales, weapons, claws and accessories.
8. Eye detail and decided on head fin color.
9. Detail on head fin and final touches.
10. Base fixing with mud texture, brushed highlights and black edge. Grass added on first picture.

Wow I love the scheme looks fantastic, only thing extra you could do it apply a nuln oil line where the gold is against the skin, no biggy.

Have to say that is probably the best colour scheme I have seen on skinks.

That's nice and bright. I like that it's kind of coherent (right word? Dunno but sounds somewhat intellectual;)) with the scales not being dark green but kind of pastel light turquoiseiturquoiseish green...

Agreed, those skinks are painted beautifully. The little green scales make me think of mint ice cream! :wideyed:

Love the Slann on whirlwind.

I really like the updated colors too and they do make the model look more coherent color wise :pompus:

I wanted a brighter and more vivid look on these as those kind of colors really work well on our dear lizzies compared to some of GWs more grim dark armies. It is also the reason that I always come back to them despite having other painting adventures every now and then. Now I just got to muster the discipline to finish these bad boys

Damn, that Slann... I have inadequacy issues now :P

Its nice to post some pics again of painting, even though i never seem to get good lighting for my pictures.
I have a lot of stuff that i painted over the years that has never seen the light of the internet, so maybe some of it shows up here:artist:

I am really excited by the new Warhammer quest :D. I have all of the previous modern ones, but i never got around to finishing Cursed City. So i picked a mini and painted as a warm-up for the new quest to come!

Wow! Great work!
Love the detail on that!!! :artist::artist::artist:

The eyes in particular, all four of them ;)

Grrr, !mrahil

That turned out really great. I don't know how it is possible to paint a face so nicely. As @Imrahil says, the eyes are amazing.

I just got my Warhammer quest delivered but I am not opening the box until Christmas Eve like a good boy

In the mean time I finished two skinks from the Star blood Stalkers. These guys are really growing on me, they got a lot of character!
