Blog Hojdars paint log. The quest continues + more skinks!

wow thats really cool i love that you even have the glow on the hand awesome work, btw if can post any WIP pics of how you made that staff or just explain it i would be grateful

Agreed, where did the staff bits come from. Did you make them yourself?

Thanks for the kind words! I really did enjoy converting this one. I'd love to do more unique convertions if I can muster some inspiration into my brain again.

The staff is actually part of the Tau Empire Sunshark bomber bomb, which I had lying about and thought i'd make a cool fantasy thingy. I also wanted to move away from using too much gold so I tried out some stone instead. I found this http://fantasygames.com.pl/turquoise-stone-tutorial/ tutorial which I followed more or less. Hope it helps!

I absolutely love the levitating flame!! How did you manage to get it to hold unbroken!!

So i guess it is time to ressurect this ol' thread again...

The prize from last summers painting competition finally arrived! I had planned to paint a pink horror and take a pic of him with the prize since he kinda looks like he is doing a celebratory roar or something. But since the delivery got delayed so did my pictures.

I have still been painting, although not any lizzies. I am almost finished with the Silver Tower Mini's, just need to finish a few more bad guys and the final heroes and it is all done! I really can recommend the Silver Tower box if you're into painting. There's a lot of different models to get into, trying different painting schemes and techniques. I have of course also been at work at some 40K minis since that is the only game my local gaming group is into (They despise Age of Sigmar deepy even though they werent into Warhammer Fantasy back when that was a thing. With the new 40K edition who knows what will happen though :p)

So with the box of minis from Hordes I have taken a couple of quick pics with my phone. Once the entire box is done i might ask my photografer friend to take some proper pictures but until then this will have to do

Oh wow! Those look incredible! Really great job on the tower stuff, and your Thaumaturge looks amazing!

Thanks guys!

I really like the fire as well. I wanted to smack some extra colour on the minis and tzeentch magicness seemed perfect for that!

Finished another hero ready to brave the tower, really pleased with how he turned out in the end. With the tower minis nearing completion i am eyeing that second Warhammer quest box. More lovely minis and the game itself is not bad either!

My fingers are starting to ich for some lizzies though... Anyone know if there's another painting competition planned for Lustria-Online anytime soon?

You have pretty bright colors on your models there, great work!
My only point of critique would be the Chieftain's skin, it is a little bit too bright for my taste. I like his facial expression though. :)

I like all of your models and I will proooobably steal one or two ideas for those of my own ST set that I haven't painted yet.
That Nurgle guy almost made me puke. Disgustingly good! :)

Love the textures on him, good work. Only criticism is completely hypocritical - but the eyes look a little derpy. I can say nothing because I can't do eyes for love nor money, you've done a better job than I could. Maybe a bit of shade around the edges to tone them down?

I was going to say the same but I struggle with eyes as my eye sight is shocking now for detail work.

I think they just need a fine line painting across the top of the eyeball to narrow them but like you say a minor detail on a excellent model.

I will definitely not critizise eyes because I literally have ONE model that has pupils in its eyes. :D
I struggle with eyes despite all the cool tips I already read here and over at TGA.

I agree that the eyes could use abit of depth. I did struggle with them abit, re-did them a couple of times but they were difficult since they lack any texture on the model. Maybe should've darkened the area around the eyes a little or something to make painting easier. The eyes do live up to my standards though, so it's nothing keeping me up at night :wacky:

@Hojdar, what product are you using for your bases? They look fantastic.

I really liked the griff hound and the big ogre guy with the magic fire.

Absolutely, you did a good job. Way better than I could do! I hate painting eyes so much...

I hate eyes so much so my basic troops just have shaded sockets.....

@deer riffs
The bases are quite simple to make, they are just some grey stuff (green stuff but... grey) from Gale Force 9 which i put a layer on each base. I then pressed the base into some gravel also from GF9. Basecoat + shade + drybrush for highlight and done! Just abit of random grassy stuff from GF 9 as well. The Barbarians base is made of the new Citadel texture paint Stirland Battlemire, which is then just quickly drybrushed and a touch of grass. The new texture paints from GW are really easy to use actually. I would recommend it if you want some decend bases quick!

I would like to get better at basing but I honestly suck at it and don't know where to begin. The local hobby stores are quite limited in the basing department. For some of my 40k stuff i bought some detailed bases from Microart. They look pretty sweet but I haven't found anyone that fit the Silver Tower theme, or a good lizzie theme for that matter.
