AoS Help with a 1000 pt list.

Just got into the hobby and was looking to make my own army. Done a lot of research but still shaky on building my own list.

Obviously not going for anything super competitive, something moderate. Something fun but not too gimicky. So far I have the start collecting Skink box and am working on painting them. But before I invest in anything else would prefer to have an idea on what to build.

Here's what I've come up with so far:

Skink Oracle on Troglodon (220) - General - Command Trait: Nimble - Artefact: Cloak of Feathers

40 x Skinks (240) - Boltspitters Celestite Daggers & Star Bucklers

BEHEMOTHS
Bastiladon (220)

The idea would be to use the Priest and Star Priest to buff the main horde while having the Bastiladon act as ranged support. The oracle would be summoning in units to support the army and replacements for the fallen skinks.

I know the Oracle on Troglodon isn't the best but I'd like to find a way to use him. Figure I can use him to generate summon points and hit and run skirmishes with the enemy while providing ranged attacks.
Also would skinks be too difficult for a beginner to use? Saurus are interesting but not the biggest fan of the older sculpts. Although I am open to a saurus army. Preferably something I can still run with a Starpriest or two. Love their sculpts!

I also love skink oracles and want them to work! I would just temper your expectations around it’s role a little?

Summoning isn’t its thing. Without a Slann, you’re getting D3 points per turn AND losing your oracle’s cast to do it. That’s huge, when comets call is so impactful.
You might get one unit of skinks out of it in the last round.

The oracle is lots of fun with Kroak casting through him though. He can also be the tanky(ish) hero we need on the front line to use command abilities.

If your group don’t mind you converting it using ‘counts as’ models, chameleon skinks are heavy lifters.
For Bastiladons to do damage, you absolutely need the +1 from the priest and for the reroll 1s spell to go off, so protect those and keep them in range.

I think your list works just fine for 1k. Specially if you are just wanting to play a capable Skink themed army.

Your main weakness is going to be how brittle the army is. Low drop armies might be able to alpha-strike your 40x unit of skinks before you can react. Kroak is a nightmare at 1k by the way. If you want to optimise then Kroak and Bound Geminids are fantastic.
