GW News: LAS VEGAS OPEN 2025

...that's what I'm afraid of :(

I'll just think of it as whatever FW designs/models that come out will cause a huge burst of creative (and probably better looking!) alternatives from the 3D sculpting community!

...unless you already have some old army on square bases, in which case things could be much less problematic.

I believe I remember reading on here somewhere that Forge World is going to be handling TOW?! If so, what does that mean exactly?

They’ll be releasing all new models in FW resin (which in itself is a shit idea because hardly anyone will be able to afford them, plus FW kits have no customisability) but I’m hoping that they’ll also resurrect the Warhammer Fantasy plastics discontinued during AoS and make all surviving Fantasy plastics usable in TOW (similar to the Middle-Earth approach) to provide a more affordable way for new players to get into the game and old guard to add additional units to their collections.

If not, it’ll sink, I’m sure of it, because so few people want to pay out Forge World prices.

The thing is, though, what if you’re new and want to start the game, or you’re an existing player who wants to start another army?

GW aren’t exactly being welcoming to those target audiences with their decision to release all new factions in FW resin.

:D

I may know some people in this category...

But I'll be investing in either Kislev or Brettonia. I'm really hoping for @Warden's sake that it's one of the first that comes out.

I'd expect that the common items people will need (especially those that can also be used in AoS) will be transitioned to plastic soon enough. We've already seen this with the Mk III and Mk IV space Marines, along with both Tartaros and Cataphractii Terminators, for Horus Heresy (they cost the same as the default tactical and terminator squads respectively).

I bring you skub of the highest degree, but lets talk about TOW first:

My major gripe is the magic system, hopefully they will look closer to AoS. I would LOVE to use a Burning Head in TOW, even if it is just scenery, because cool (hotness?) factor.

The setting is something I still want to see, but positively hopeful: if this takes place centuries before The End Times, Lizardmen's range is completely unscratched, except Lord Kroak, who should get a small plastic version of himself if they want to make plastic Slanns, so they can be optionally build as him, and maybe as Mazdamundi, and, who knows? maybe even make them compatible with the default Stegadons, so they can finally mount one without kitbashing!

Oh, yeah, about the presence of Lizardmen? Well, that I don't know for sure, but if they bring back all the plastic squats from AoS, from TK to HE, I would expect to see the entire world. They still have to have those moulds around.

That being said, no Karl Franz and Deathclaw on monster bases (amongst many other characters alive in 8E). Kinda sad, I'd love to build that specific assembly, but Amber Wizards on bicephalous Griffon is fair game.

Production would be cheap; just make some FW exclusives and fewer plastic kits. I love my current plastic Seraphon battleline options for AoS: they look prehistorically charming, but I would mind to instead rebase my Warriors to square bases and, if GW relelase new plastic kits for Lizardmen/Serpahon, use the new ones in AoS instead. Also, plastic Kroxigors, Sallies and Razors, please.

It'd be all fine and dandy, but they updated their IP Guidelines:

We have a zero tolerance policy in respect of infringement of our intellectual property rights. This includes:

  • counterfeit models - our products must not be reproduced and sold.
  • imitation models - our products must not be imitated. Imitators produce models which copy heavily from Games Workshop’s artwork, books or products.
  • recasting and 3D printing - our products must not be illegally re-cast or scanned, nor should digital designs of our products be illegally produced and distributed.
  • Illegal downloads - our publications, audio books, and other material protected by copyright must not be illegally uploaded, shared, or distributed in any format.
  • unauthorised use of our trademarks - unauthorised use or registration of our trademarks in respect of similar products or services is not permitted.
  • Fan-films and animations – individuals must not create fan films or animations based on our settings and characters. These are only to be created under licence from Games Workshop.
  • Games and apps – individuals must not create computer games or apps based on our characters and settings. These are only to be created under licence from Games Workshop.

I can understand them protecting their IPs, but, fan-films and animations? what about people making SFM or GMOD custome videos for specific content creators?; games and apps? what about TW mods then?

I LOVE this dragons. I don't really mind the Stormcast aesthetic, but Karazai the Scarred? GOOD STUFF.

They will be part of Stormcast, but I wouldn't be surprised to see them becoming allies to the rest of the faction like SoB and Kraggie, although Stormcasts are already allies with pretty much the entirety of Order...

Good thing they are not really a new faction (yet); imagine having to carry this guys around...

On the 40K side, the teased Grey Knights versus Thousand Sons box has been fully revealed:

I guess GW really wants to get into the theme of Smaugust.

Man these are so similar to the dragons you rescue in Spyro the Dragon (remaster) and I don't like their faces. Wanted something more bestial, even if they are intelligent and magical, it could have had both aspects.
