GW News: LAS VEGAS OPEN 2025

Here is a though: Magnetize Kroak (and perhaps the Skink) and use the palanquin as a piece of scenery in battles that will not feature Kroak :p

Grrr, Imrahil

Agreed.

However, I'm surprised you haven't pointed out what I assume might be your favorite part of the model. The Stormcast head & skulls in the lower column on the model's right side. ;)
I totally missed that. God dammit... GW can work Stormcast into anything.

Nothing that a little bit of greenstuff couldn't remedy though.

that and the fact he has eyes are why he looks more alive than the original model and probably the reason why @NIGHTBRINGER prefers the old model
That is perhaps my top reason. I personally like the old sculpt better because:
  • the kroak model itself is much better. As @Lord Agragax of Lunaxoatl says, the old Kroak is more undead... a.k.a. a relic priest. Makes for a greater point of differentiation between Kroak and an ordinary Slann.
  • the mummified skink is a nice touch, and another point of differentiation from the standard Slann model.
  • easier to transport and store
  • more enjoyable to paint. This new one looks like a nightmare to paint
  • less breakable (aside from falling off his flying stand)
  • I like the triangular silhouette of the model
  • fits beautifully in a unit of Temple Guard... exactly where he should be.

Lastly... sometimes less is more. Not always, but sometimes I prefer the simpler nature of the older sculpts. The new sculpts are all about larger and larger sizes combined with more and more detail crammed in. Nothing wrong with that, there are cases where I feel the new sculpts are a huge improvement (all four greater daemons, Morathi, etc.). However, in other instances the older sculpts catch my eye more (Kroak, Carnosaur, Be'lakor, daemonettes, etc.). The old Slann/Kroak models happen to be my favourite warhammer models of all time.

With all that said, the new Kroak model is very nice. A fine addition to the Lizardmen/Seraphon lineup. However it is a model that I am very unlikely to add to my extensive Slann collection. Too big in scale for WFB, I like the old sculpt better and this new sculpt will likely carry a very heavy price tag.

and, time for another of my unpopular opinions, I really don’t like that Slann model much because it’s simply sitting there staring at the enemy as though they were a teacher that had just asked him a question he doesn’t know the answer to - sure, Slann aren’t Olympic gymnasts at the best of times, but I’d at least like a Slann model that’s raising a hand to cast or block a spell, or with his head raised and eyes closed in meditation
:meh:

Like usual, we are in complete and utter disagreement! :joyful:

The models in AoS are not meant to be ranked up and it seems like GW is really trying to go to town on designing things with this in mind.

Yup.

You guys are a regular comedy duo...

Indeed. The format of the game does give GW quite a bit more freedom. Some of the models really do benefit from this, but at other times some of the models seem become pure display pieces instead of game pieces. Too fragile and difficult to transport.

WFB was a bit too restrictive and would have benefitted from larger base sizes (i.e. every base is bumped up 5mm) or have small gaps between models (like skirmishers, but instead of 1/2" make it something like 1/4"). KoW has a very elegant system.

Like matter and anti-matter! :D

I cannot decide which Kroak model I prefer.
I do like the old one, too, but there are so many great details on the new one, and it is made of plastic instead of the old crappy warpy resin that almost drove me insane!

After looking at it a bit more I dont think it will be as big as (at least for me) we were thinking. Kroak and his palanquin look similar in size to the standard one, maybe slightly bigger. I think it's all the realmshaper and tree stuff which is adding the bulk.

There also seems to be a fair bit of 'life's on the model including most of the tusks being complete, perhaps they are going to say he is reincarnating or something daft?

I guess we will have to wait and see.

We can see the scale here in comparison to Skinks:

Kroak himself does seem a bit bigger, but its mostly all the detritus floating around that makes the model so massive in size.

Actually, I do not think that is a Stormcast head. It looks like some kind of stone totem.

That said, several weeks ago I mentioned to people that the emergence of new Vampire sculpts was a good sign, as it meant GW was finally getting around to resculpting older models. Behold, they have finally gotten around to the first (hopefully of MANY) Seraphon resculpts!

VINDICATION!!! :D :D :D

I hope not. That's a Trojan horse, creating a pathway for AoS to infect Total War.

As long as TWWH is based on the Old World, i don't see it happens.
Now, if there would be an announcement for TWWH: the End Times... there would be valid reasons to be very worried.

I'd rather take no chances with anything GW related (not sure how much influence they have over CA's creative control). If GW can work Stormcast (or Space Marines... same difference) into something, they will.

Better safe, than sorry.

Doesn't matter. It already started. They are using the current Greater Daemon models from 40K/AoS.

Actually the Bloodthirster/Skarbrand kit, the first of the plastic Greater Daemons, was released during the End Times with the last of the End Times books, Archaon. What’s more Greater Daemons have always been part of Fantasy, so replacing the tiny old models with the big new plastic ones is acceptable.

Good point!

Plus the Forge World kits (which are very large in scale) have been around for years. It just took mainline GW a while to catch up.

New Kroak looks rad. Can't wait to get a bunch of painters trying it out like all the glorious Sigvalds and giants.
