GW News: LAS VEGAS OPEN 2025

Meh, I'd also say in some regards WarCraft is closer to 'generic' fantasy than Warhammer - certainly where humans are concerned, for example - a Bretonnian Knight or Imperial Halberdier is iconic as a clearly 'Warhammery' concept, while you'd need a seasoned Warcraft fan to tell you that a Footman, for example (infantryman in standard-fare knight armour in WarCraft III) is a specifically WarCraft unit.
I think that is mostly due to it being quite old and being part of an RTS game. They don't have enough pixels and polygons to really make something that doesn't look like "generic knight guy".

Honestly, the most distinct aspect of warcrafts 3 style is how nothing is round. Everything is either a square or a triangle.

But it is reasonably distinct when you get a decent quality picture of the original artwork from warcraft 3, or look at the more modern art.

Those aren't new, they're the Empire General kit released in the 7th Edition era of Fantasy (the foot and horse characters) and the 2012 Imperial Griffon model.

Some detective on Reddit has noticed that unless the pictures of the Empire models have been digitally altered, the molds have been adjusted. No Karl Franz name or initials on the war alter or the Empire General's shield - and those were not painted on details, they were sculpted details that have been removed. Also some removal of Sigmar - which makes sense, it's hard to depict a Middenland army when they refer Ulric over Sigmar.

So, while not a new new sculpt, slightly tweaked and altered so that there aren't any Empire units showing alliegence to an Emperor who has not been born yet.

I wouldn't be surprised if the Sigmar and Karl Franz escutcheons and hubcaps were alternative parts in the same kit so that modellers could customise their Warshrine to be Karl Franz specific or a generic altar of Sigmar (note that even in the original picture the rear pair of hubcaps are 'S' for 'Sigmar'). As for the banners changing from 'Karl Franz' to 'Sigmar Heldenhammer', having a load of Space Marine bitz has given me experience in knowing that those banners are generally blank to allow players to paint their own text on them.

But I've never built one of those kits so I can't say for certain... we need a die-hard Empire player to confirm!

@Scalenex @pendrake @BrotherSutek @Knoffles @Padre @Krox_v.2 Can any of you lads offer us any knowledge of this kit?

Yesterday some new TOW wizards were revealed:

The one I liked the best was

I like the guy, but I love his familiar, grumpy toad :)

Grrr, !mrahil

I presume this is in place of Empire getting their plastic Battle Wizard kit (designed for the era of the Colleges of Magic) back...

The Elemental wizard shown above is by far the best for me... he'd work equally well as a Life Wizard for 8th Edition and earlier, and as a Druid/Truthsayer figure for Albion armies using my army list.

I am far from a die-hard Empire player.

I am a Lizard player with a secondary Undead army and a tertiary Empire army that I bought on sale because once in a while I want to know what it is like to shoot a canon at something.

The plastic war altar is actually one of the few Empire kits I never had much interest in. So I can't help there.

Have to agree with Krox_v.2 I'm not a fan of the new war altar at all so never looked into it. Way too busy for me. That toad helper though is neat but not neat enough to buy the other model as it would just sit in the pile of shame.

So while I don't own a war altar, I do have the Empire General plastic kits, the 2 in 1 from 7th with the horse mounted and on foot options and the 8th edition General on Imperial Griffin one, which both feature a lot of sculpted on references to Karl Franz on shields and so on as default, so I'm pretty sure the war altar kit had default Franz references sculpted on in 8th edition.

Funny how nobody cared for the war alter. XD

The reddit post did bring up Empire Generals having the Karl Franz references removed as well, so huh. I guess it's minor work to change a small detail? Or else they're really dedicated to remaking the classic molds but lore accurate

I always figured to eventually try to get the 5th edition one for nostalgia purposes.

I have the old metal one as I like the model. The new one is sadly typical of the new GW art direction of too busy and cluttered with details than I prefer. I did like the new horse design but that was it.

Ooh, a member of the Knights Panther!

Hmm... not overly keen on the helmet, the ornament on top gives me too much of a Bretonnia vibe, even without the grail being depicted.

The feather? Fine as decoration. But for the Empire, simpler helmets feel much more appropriate. So if I ever buy this chap, replacing the head with a Perry Bros War of the Roses Footknight helm.
