7th Ed. Gladiatorial Fights!

So, I want to take part in this event this year. For those of you who aren't familiar with it, basically it's a fight on a 4'x4' board with a single Fantasy Character worth up to 300 points. Obviously, I can't take either my Carnosaur or my Slann, but do you guys have any suggestions as to what might work? I was thinking an Oldblood with Burning Blade on a Cold One. Maybe I'll throw on a Bane Head if I have enough points.

Well for an Oldblood you could have:

Saurus Oldblood
Hide of the Cold Ones, Piranha Blade, Bane Head, shield.
1+ Armour save, T6, and one wound kills the enemy character.

or

Slann Mage-Priest
Bane Head, Focus of Mystery, Biting Blade
6 spells, take Metal and watch any high armour characters go poof.

The Slann with Bane head and mystery are going to be very hit or miss. Some characters are simply too resilient against magic and once you get stuck in CC its all over. Ring of Hotek chars would eat this guy alive. On the other hand they won't have dispel dice so spirit of the forge/destillation of silver + banehead = win?

I don't think the Piranha is the way to go for an Old blood, most chars will have good armor save and S5 isnt too impressive. Cold One, LA and enchanted shield give you a -1+ save, which is very handy. Revered Blade + banehead could really hurt people, or the blade of realities. I wouldn't choose Burning Blade, if you go up against a High Elf character with immune-to-fire armor you won't be able to hurt him !

Yeah but against a HE character, you could stand there looking silly until the Cold One kills him.

I'm not too convinced with the BoR on this.. It eats most of your points so you have little in the way of defence and all the opponents will have really high leadership. It will probably be a matter of kill in the first round or die trying.

what about a flying skink priest? just keep running away and blast the other guy with magic untill you either miscast or he dies. even if he flies he should be able to catch you.

I'd go for

-Amulet of Itza
-Bane Head
-Light Armour
-Shield
-Cold One

So, 0+ Armour save, a 2+ ward save and 7 S5 attacks with a potential 14 wounds plus the Cold Ones attacks. I'd go with the Amulet instead of the Glyph Necklace to improve your chance to save your character, hopefully you can kill the enemy before you would need to use a ward save again!

-Bane Head
-Light Armour
-Shield
-Terradon

Shoot, flee, regroup, shoot, flee - rinse and repeat! Have the enemy chase you around the board while you blast them!

-Repeater Crossbow

Total Points: 284pts

He has a 0+ Armour save vs shooting, a 1+ armour save in CC, a 4+ regen roll, the uber powerful reverse ward save, killing blow attacks and a 2 shot AP crossbow! He's also Ld10 so BoR is pretty useless against him! Not too sure what we have that could defeat this guy 1 on 1............

I'd take a Saurus-Old Blood with blade of realities, enchanted shield, light armor and a cold one

Quite frankly, the only way to kill that Delf lord. Is by the blade of realities.
Even dwarf lords can have so much protection, that any other gear setup will not kill the enemy.

You just have to take the magic you face up the chin. And any attacks you face, well; just hope for the best
I'd pick Blade of Realities any day of the week in these sort of competitions. Other lords are just so insanely powerfull...we have to get rid of them!

There's a 300 point limit, so no Stegs.
I think I might give this a go:

Offensively you'll wound any other character likely on 2's. Also, they most likely will have a ridiculous armour save that will be negated. Finally, your movement of 7 will give you the advantage over any foot characters. Defensively, you have a T5 character that has a 0+ armour save and a 2+ ward save against the first wound suffered. To me, this character is ready to rock.

Untill you face a defensive dwarven lord. Or the unkillable Dark elf lord.
That is you waterloo right there.
The dwarves can set-up a lord in a way that:
1+ AS re-rollable.
4+ ward save
If anything strikes at OVER strenght 5, it is reduced to strenght 5 instead.
This guy is WS6, T5. So hard to hit. And to wound if you can only strike at S5 vs T5.

The dark elves have the unkillable lord which is already been talked about in this topic.

Wood elves have no armor, Ogres none to speak of, O&G isn't your worry, Empire does has very good armour. So Revered blade works good against them. As does it do vs brets.
Some vampire builds as well, Daemons...well. Depends on what your facing.
High elves, none to speak of. Dark elves; unkillable. Dwarves; 'fridge' lord. Keeps you going forever.
Beasts of chaos? Not much armour AFAIK.
Warriors of chaos, lots of armour. But also wards and good offense.


All in all, I'm not too convinced yet...

The revered blade is potent, but not so much in the arena IMHO.

IMO:
Lots-of-attacks-with-some-protection-lord
Or
Blade of Realities.

I still think that with all the high armour saves running around, a cheap Slann is a great way to go. With Bane Head and Lore of Metal he can basically kill anything that comes at him. And then you do not have to worry about Dwarves.

It could be. Slann+bane head+?? for the last few points? and a 'free' discipline?
Regenerate? Immune to non-magical weaponry (read: if you decide on full defence+GW you will lose), regeneration, terror?
They're all pretty fun actually

I just doubt that magic is the way to go in the arena...
Magicians never tend to do well in a 1 vs 1 gladiatorial fight
Usually they make only 1 sound:

i would take skink chief on stegadon +bane head =300 or some other item for 15 pt.
you get a steg prety awsome, 4 crew men for poisoned attacks and a chief. + great bow with poisoned atack.

With only the free disciple, and no Magic Items, he fits the bill. I still think Combat is the way to go. I might do the Terradon Skink, just for fun.

A Slann is only 275 pts, with a free disciple it could potentially be devastating. That and Bane Head, would be quite good against a multitude of characters.

whats bad for hit on 6? you dont move and try to hit himwhen he is close you charge. hit on 6 with poisoned attacks is guide in this way becouse alot of people will have high armor.
plus d6+1 impackt hit +3 steg atacks +4 skins +chiefs if he doesnt die in first cc round he will die in second.
IMHO i would choose between steg and slann.

allso i would consider Tetto'eko and Gor~Rok they are quite nice.
