Tutorial Getting the most from your Start collecting Seraphon box.

This guide is fantastic.
You really can cut down the costs and still get good looking models.
I will soon work on my astrolith bearer conversion (starting from the trimmed base + standard bearer icons idea).

I’m glad you find it useful, I’ve nearly finished painting the models so expect pictures soon.

Damn, this troglodon cheat is somewhat amazing. I am really impressed. But one thing, as i remember, troglodons is a cave-dwelling reptile, not nautical.

Well there you have a challenge for yourself, create a cave dweller from the parts ;)

Question regarding the Astrolith Bearer:

He is mounted on a 40mm base. The base used for the banner, is that a 32mm base or a second 40mm base?

Dam i wish i found this before glueing my 12 saurus warriors xD. Great Guide!
The Troglodon out of the water looks amazing.

Is the Astrolith Bearer a new invention from AS1 or AS2? Did it, or some equivalent, exist for WFB8?

I think it was called Saurus Scar Veteran Battle Standard Bearer or something like that.

As said by Aginor, it was the BSB (battle standard bearer).
The battle standard was a single model for the army (while normal standards can be part of the command group of each unit).
It just gave some additional bonuses (+1 to combat resolution and so on)

Excellent tutorial, I am currently building the troglodon and the rest of the box!

I'm thinking of adding scenery to the water-beast (or cave-water-beast :) ) to make up for the loss of height (a tree or two, or a stone bit to mimic the cave) so that it matches approximately the height of the carni / troglo original model. That way, with the same base and same height, it can be played with opponents for whom line of sight of original models is important.
Anyone ventured in these kinds of scenery ?

Also, I'd love to see what the students of this tutorial came up with for the troglodon and other models, to get inspiration on the finishing touches :)

By the way, quick 'n' dirty magnetizing of the throne and of the left arm of the saurus oldblood / scar-vet in the pics below. While the arm could be done better, I think I nailed the positioning for the throne it fits really smoothly.

It's a 32 but you could use a 40mm

You could build a cave and just have the head portion sticking out of it.

I like that idea Crowsfoot, I'll give it a go on the second SC box ;) I went with the pose suggested in the original post here but a cave can always be built atop that, too.

I modified the kitbashing for the astrolith by using an Aztec themed greenstuff roller. This thread has given me far more inspiration for kitbashing than anything in the past.

Great work, have you thought about doing this with the new battleforce? At least for the kits that aren't in the sc.

I only did the SC as it is a starter army sort of box, I don't think there is much mileage in other boxes, the battleforce is basically going to be skink conversions, I did a tutorial on making Chameleon skink from standard skinks a while back.
