Blog Gauntlet's Lizards

Finally I have the Mk-II T-Rex, with a larger and more aggressive head.

Happy with it, but I still don't have my dream Carnosaur... Oh well, someday.

Thus concludes my lizardy contributions for a year .. been busy with other projects, but next up is more Lancers and riders, and then a bunch of Saurus I thinks!

Thanks for reading folks.

Well shoot ... Over a year since I posted! Time sure does inevitably match forward uncaring of humanity's fate and suffering eh?

Lol, what a great way of phrasing :D

And what a way to present your year of absence :wideyed:
I love the colorful slann and his neat palanquin, also love the extra plants on the base, it makes the jungle complete.

Great fan of the Green and Orange Raptor... (I am working with green and orange for my Torglodon at the moment ;))
Are the riders OPR models or are those the BloodBowl Saurus models? They seem to fit nicely.

Keep up the great work!

Grrr, !mrahil

Hehe. I love curt unassuming cynicism lol

Also the riders are games workshop with OPRM heads and weapons. However, the heads have a headdress from Raven twin miniatures digitally merged as well.

I thought those looked like OPR miniatures. That's a lot of interesting work/re-work and I like them. Did you just not like the heads of the GW minis or was to make them fit with your other minis better?

What would your "dream Carno" be more like?

Have you seen this from Clay Beast Creation? It's not a bad mix of fantasy dino.

Regarding the Saurus heads... It's both. I don't like the GW heads, they are too short and stubby and relatively small compared to the body... And somewhat non saurian. I dunno... They clearly couldn't use those jaws sever limbs lol.

As for the claybeast creation, it's a great sculpture and on my to-get list.

I'm not sold on the posture and the horn on the head ruins him for me.

I think I just want the total war Carnosaur, but with different skin texture than the freebie/game file sourced versions you can get have.

There's something about t-rex with gorilla arms that appeals.

Gotcha. The Total War Carno is really cool looking.

But I've not been entirely idle!

Firstly, the mage priest!

I did my typical things for the base and throne, mirroring my Lord Kroak, except I attempted some glowy blue bits... Which I think if I was brave enough to attempt object source lighting would be amazing. But I'm a coward lol.

Frogboy himself was a bit out there, and I'm happy with him, but I'd love to try a simpler grittier scheme on a spare slann someday. I'm happiest with his pinkish metallic eyes and the pink lightning though

I'm still a fan of the original slann look, but the pallaquin upgrade is amazing.

That Slann looks so vibrant. Very nice colorization. Beautiful!

I once tried to make some Temple Guard, but that was so long ago and I've become a much better "digital kitbasher" since then. Also, I changed my Saurus to utilize the Games Workshop bodies.

Since GW has not come out with new Temple Guard, I decided to try and make a new stab at it... and since I've always believed Temple Guard should be intimidating... well... they are big...

First up, I used some freebie bits available from Cults3d to make a few varieties of Tower Shields. The turtle shell hide shields are insufficient, when Temple Guard have been described as having "interlocking shields".

While posing "interlocking" isn't really too feasible, you can at least imagine it's possible with larger tower shaped shields.

The bodies, shoulders, tails, are actually all from a lizardmen bloodbowl 3d printable team, and match the existing GW scaly style quite well... meanwhile their star player provided a great shoulder pad option to make these guys really look better armored. I then added an additional pelvis plate, and for a few variants, I gave them the "tusk array" at the back.

Additionally, I took the One Page Rules Temple Guard Halberds and enlarged the weapon top, double sided it, to make an imposing weapon. It could be longer I suppose, but these guys (as you will see) are quite large already.

Then of course we have the heads, which utilize bits from all sorts of sources, but mainly One Page Rules Temple Guard, with some additional armor, feathers, and I inserted a larger "eyeball" piece to help make them easier to paint, I might be able to do pupils/slit eyes.

Finally we have the sheer size of these beasties... so large in fact, that they are using 40mm round bases (compared to my Saurus using 32mm round).

Some have skulls, some don't, some have forward tusks, some don't, I made about 7 variant poses (some are the same pose/etc., but different heads), and found that because of the arc of the feathers/etc., they really need to be printed combined with the pose, but tails, right hand/weapon, and shield are separate pieces.

Overall I'm extremely happy with how these came out, and while 10 is probably enough (especially given their size) as an escort for my Slann, I'm considering 20, and maybe a special combo/piece that would hold up the Slann's palanquin like those of old.

Hope you like them!!!

Decided to make a new salamander to match the larger spawn of chotec base size etc.

While upscaling him, I digitally applied some armor and spikes.

First attempt at some real object source lighting, I think it's too subtle, but I didn't ruin the model so I'm pleased.
