It seems terradons have lost their rule that allowed skink chiefs to join them and ripperdactyls don't have any such rule either, so mounted flying skink chiefs can't join their respective units now or am I missing something? If so that makes them even more useless!

You would think they would at least let Tiktaq'to have some sort of rule like that.

What stops them from joining the units?

I'm ill and can't remember the rules, the book being somewhere out of range of my lethargy.

BRB page 97

Unless otherwise stated, a character cannot join...a unit of flyers ...

Well it is a book written by Jeremy Vetock....

In friendly games i'd be happy to let it slide aslong as said charactèr is on a similar mount

The "flyers" part of that rule is kinda odd. In the previous paragraph it explains all of the units that a character can join and then proceeds to say the 4 that it can't join. All of the other things listed are actual unit types. Flyers is not a unit type.

Monstrous Cavalry is a unit type, specifically the unit type of Ripperdactyl Riders and Terradon Riders and it specifically says that a character can join units of those types.

To properly exclude flyers it should probably say "units with the Fly special rule" and not "flyers" cause in game terms "flyers" doesn't truly mean anything.

I'm not sure I can fully blame Vetok when in one paragraph it says we can put them in the units (due to the fact that their unit type changed) and in following it implies that we cannot.

yes also in old book the tiktaq didn't said that can join in the terradon unit in terradon's said only skink chief but the mask of heaven's still said that 'in the unit he is in' so i think they can both join
it's like the 2 giant blowpipe's in steg

also the brb says that a character can join a monstrous cavalry ... terradons and rippers are MC..... so what's the problem...

They are also fliers. They both can and can not join the unit.

Although I think they should be able to join.

we care about the unit type all the other doesn't matter

if it was a shark and the unit type was infantry is infanty end of story

I understand that and also think they should be able to join. The paragraph after it says what type of unit a character can join it says what kind of units they can not join. On that list is fliers.

Ninja'd!

Because it the next paragraph it explicitly forbids you joining units of flyers, you can't just selectively choose what rules to follow, that is the problem.

It would be like someone saying:
You can play warhammer with males, females and dogs

You may not play warhammer with cats (evil) and anything with a contagious illness

A male come up to you and asks for a game but he has the flu, can you play with him?

Being monstrous cavalry and being a flyer are not mutually exclusive rules and therefore just because a unit fits the criteria of one rule set doesn't mean it can ignore the second set of rules.

This is exceedingly annoying as I used to run a skink chief on a Terradon regularly and would love to run one on a ripper.

The point about flyers not actually being defined is a valid one, however "flyers" isn't exactly an ambiguous classification and it is a bit rules lawyery to try and claim that as justification.

yes but the terra and ripper is not flier's is monstrous cavalry with special rule fly....

Having the special rule fly makes you a flyer. There is no unit type flyer.

ok listen a character that itself riding a monster or chariot cannot join a unit so ... the above rule is for a character ON FOOT!!! so is the character has a flying monster cavalry he can join it read all the brb clear

it doesn't say on foot but if you read lower you will see the 'if the character is on a monster or chariot can't join a unit'
so ..... if a character is on a monter it can join a monster unit yes? so chief with a terra can join a MC monter unit i am wrong?

No I think you have read that wrong,

If the character is on a monster it cannot join ANY units, not an infantry unit, not a monstrous cav unit, not a monster unit , it cannot join any unit under ANY circumstance.
It does not say "if the character is on a monster, he can join a monster unit"
