I'm thinking about having a narrative type battle against a friend soon. He's considering either using a Bretonnian Exiles list, an Ogre Kingdoms list or the Wolves of the Sea list I have already posted. Neither of us are looking to create super competitive lists, just balanced ones that would make for a fun narrative battle.

The list sounds nice and cool. But I wonder why do you want your magician fly? He moves already 6 and fly but cannot found a useful magic is worse.. I could understand if you gave him cube of darkness (defensive) a ruby ring or lore familiar. But i don't see really sense in that cloack (unfortunately).

About sword of might well on your champion is quite useless, neverless bretonnian get 5+ ward save against St 5 and you give them already -1 AP. I should change it to a biting blade (or even better nothing), your champion is going to die in challenges...
Sword of might or biting blade may be better on your hero. Alternatively he could use a good armour save with silvered steel armour and a great weapon (or meteoric iron+charmed shield and great weapon or a magician one).
You want your hero stay alive don't forget it

Then personally if you play ancient stegadon I should consider the engine of gods, but it's your narrative choice. Have fun!

I don't rate cham skinks personally and you already have 32 skinks. Also having 4 krox is ideal as you won't trigger a panic when a single model dies from shooting.

My friend and I have agreed to not go magic heavy, with wizards limited to lvl 2. I decided on the cloak of feathers as I was thinking the mobility of flight would be useful and anyway, I figured it might be more fun having the skink priest zipping around.

As for the champion, I gave him the sword of might while thinking about the possibility of my friend going with the Wolves of the Sea list instead.

As for the ancient steg, that's based on my WYSIWYG principles, as my ancient steg was assembled with giant blowpipes.

The chameleon skinks were included for narrative purposes. I imagine they were the patrol that first detected the opposing army. The scouting skinks were sent to back them up and act as additional observers.

Only thing I will say though, is consider Venom of the Firefly Frog over SoM

SoM give you +1S, which means you wound on 2+. But you were already wounding a marauder on 3s, and venom gives you poison, so you have a chance that you only had to roll to hit if you get a 6. You are -1 AP for you obsidian blades, so no advantage there for the SoM.

Then with the 5 points you save on the Venom over the sword, you buy a charmed shield for the one time 5+ ward, significantly raising the chances of you winning the dual. Since you are lower initiative and will be fighting second, so surviving until your initiative is key

It's just for the duel to get first turn. Where that 1 5+ ward has a disproportionate effect on the game.

And looking at his list it's probably just taking him over the 500 point core min. So it's either points on the only champ worth taking that duel OR it's points on more saurus

Still thinking that a lodestone may be a better combo. Other champions may also have not only 2 but even 3 attacks (as you) and it’s not so strange that in charge the hit you twice against an easy WS of 3. If they have a lance and wound on 2+ Isn’t so inpossible to get 2 wounds against you.

I am talking about gearing to win vs the Wolves of the Sea pre-game duel.

It will always be against a Marauder type champion with 1 wound. The duel isn't on the charge.

Nothing you said is wrong, but it doesn't help you in THAT duel specifically.

It's a meta dependent decision. But if a Warrior's Duel is something you'll frequently find yourself in, then being ready to win it may be worth the investment. Especially if it helps fill min-core.

Loadstone doesn't help there. If meant luckstone, yeah that's a bit better defensively as you go from a 4+/5+ to a 4+/4++ But it's another 10 points more than the charmed shield. If you have to drop the offensive boost of the venom to get that, not sure that's worth it seeing as the luck stone only works once as well.
