8th Ed. First Post and 1st Lizardman List (500pts Escalation to 2K)

Hi All

I normally play WoC or Empire, however my club is doing an escalation league of four games, starting at 500pts, then rising to 1K , 1.5K and 2K.

I have chosen to take Lizardmen and have so far purchased a box of Saurus and a box of Terradons/Rippers.

For my initial 500pts I need at lease three units and a general (character).

I currently have the 16 Saurus filling Core and the Rippers in Special. Any ideas for a good third unit and hero who will synergise with the these units, (also with an eye to building towards a larger force?)

I am used to fast cav (Marauder Horse) so plan on taking a few units of rippers/terradacs but other than that im fairly open to suggestions. Would appreciate advice on good units/lore/items to synergise with multiple fast cav flyers?

So far I am thinking maybe initially taking either

500pts
16 Saurus
SkinK Chief on Ripper
3 Rippers
3 Terras

or

500pts
16 suarus
Skink Priest
3 Rippers
2 x 5 Chameleon skinks

Any thoughts or ideas appreciated!

I like the second list... At 500 pts the camos can be deployed virtually anywhere. Saurus will stand up to most of the core that exists out there and a beast priest could make the difference in tougher battles. It also sets you up for a nasty flank attack with the rippers especially if that's the toad rage unit. Just be wary of frenzy baiting and you should do fine.

Ok so list has morphed into this

Skink priest lvl2 beasts

12 saurus sword&board with standard

10 skirmishes with Java

5 chameleons

3 rippers


I'm hoping that the rippers and scouts can go for early wm, solo casters or chaff, whilst skirmishes move up with saurus. I'm hoping the buffed saurus will be able to mop up anything that has already fought the other units.

Most of the others are only taking three units so I'm hoping the extra unit will give me an edge.

Do you think lvl2 on the priest is better than lvl1 and 3 extra saurus to get a third rank?

It really just depends on the spells you roll; If you get an amber spear or maybe transformation then yes. If not the third rank might help. You're basically going to 6 dice wyssans the phase that you need it so a level one is just fine, but the possibility of the magic missile or introducing a monster into the mix at 500 points is almost too useful not to risk it. i doubt the 3rd rank will help with steadfast, but you're likely to be outnumbered anyway so you're pretty much leaning on cold blooded. The other notion being spears let you fight with all your ranks, but I think the parry save is almost a necessity at this scale. You definitely need to try and whittle their block down before you attack. Best of luck I like the list.

Thanks for the reply. 1st evening is this Tuesday, so I should see all the other teams 500pts and imagine I will get a few different opponents. Challenge then is the step up to 1k the following month, purchase, assemble and paint. I'm currently thinking the eventual 2k list is slan of light, to take on the demons, woc and Nero lists ( looks like 8 of 12 teams) as well as the general utility from buffs.

This is another reason to use both chamos and skink skirmishes at 500pts is an opportunity for me to try units before making 1k decisions.

Next week I will post a brief battle report with some pics, then open discussion on 1k list escalation.
