AoS First Aos list, am i doing it right? (2k)

So I've been reading through the Seraphon book and such and think i am getting to grips with how this all works.

I have made a 2000 points list, Have i done it right?

The starborn(couldnt find a points value for this? )

Sunclaw Starhost -160

Lord Kroak - 320

Oldblood on Carnosaur - 250

1 x Skink starpriest

10 x Saurus Guard - 200

30 x Saurus warriors - 270

30 x Saurus warriors - 270

30 x Saurus warriors - 270

3 x Kroxigor - 140

2000Pts Total.

Thoughts?

There wont be one, this is a free choice between starborn and Coalesced.

Sunclaw Starhost -160
This is good for drop reduction, artefact and additional rend on your Saurus.

Lord Kroak - 320
Basically auto include atm

Oldblood on Carnosaur - 250
This is fine for Sunclaw leader slot, you need to decide what artefact you are bringing on him. TBH, the Saurus ones suck, you may want to look at the sub factions of Dracothians tail or Koatls claw

1 x Skink starpriest
You need to decide which spell its going to take. a lot of people take the hand of glory for hit re rolls. additionally since you have a battalion you have two artefacts you are bringing, and you have two heroes, this guy gets one. Skink artefacts are pretty boss.

10 x Saurus Guard - 200
babysit kroak with these bad boys and he will never die

30 x Saurus warriors - 270
reduce this to 10 and put the other 20 in the other two groups for a points reduction (90 each 10 or 320 for 40, saves 80 points total) make this unit have clubs

30 x Saurus warriors - 270
Bump to 40 take spears

30 x Saurus warriors - 270
Bump to 40 take spears

3 x Kroxigor - 140
Drop these. some people are a fan, I personally am not, especially since this isn't a skink list. with your 80 points saved from redistributing your warriors you have 220 and could bring a bastilodon

2000Pts Total.

Also the oldblood on carnosaur is now 230 points, so thats another few spare to use along with ones saved if you push the saurus blocks into units of 40.

take a closer look at coalesced and the koatls claw subfaction as this list might be more affective in those subfactions since you get an extra jaw attack on almost everything in that list

Two thumbs up, this is all awesome advice given in an easy format that isn't overly pushy or dismissive.


I totally agree with @ILKAIN that this list should definitely slot into DT (if you like the summoning and teleporting of starborne) or Koatl's Claw (just to maximize the damage of all your saurus units).

If you go with DT, the artefact is a lot of fun on an oldblood. Watching the look on your opponents face when a carnosaur pops back up with full wounds is hilarious. As DT, you'll basically get your choice of command trait as well because the DT command trait has to go on a slann and thats impossible when you only have Kroak. I think "Master of Star Rituals" is always a good suggestion if you're bringing the bastiladon, or simply run "Mighty Warleader" on your carno for an extra CP if you are not.

With the extra artefact, I think Cloak of Feathers is the go to. The artefact is just so overloaded its insane, and it'll help you keep your starpriest always in range to buff what it needs to.

The other thing i'll add is this - if this is your first list I think more important than anything is just to start playing games. All of the advice @ILKAIN gave is great and I personally believe will make this list better, but you will simply have no idea how it meshes with your playstyle and understanding of the game without seeing how stuff starts to work on the tabletop. You might end up loving the Kroxigor for a ton of different reasons, even if they aren't the "best" choice and that's totally okay!

Hopefully you can get your seraphon on the table soon! I've been having an absolute blast with the book, there's so much fun stuff in there.

Stegadons are good. if you happen to have tyranids, I have an on sprue basti im willing to trade

each faction has a list of relics you can choose from in the battletome. additionally subfactions have mandatory ones you have to take for your first one

dracothians tail, its a subfaction in the new Seraphon battletome that focuses on deepstriking units

no, units in aos (unless specifically stated on their warscrolls) must have the same weapons. if you have a model that is the musician or banner bearer, they are treated as if they also carry the same weapons as the rest of the models in that unit.
 
Cheers for the advice =] unfortunatly I got rid of my 'nids when i stopped playing a few years ago.

Just got all my lizards out and I have 80ish saurus with clubs and 20 with spears (the drummer and wavey flag are included in thoe numbers) plus 20 guard. so will probably end up going 2x 40 clubs then 10 spears instead of the other way around.

Hopefully things ease off soon so i can find somewhere to have a small game at =]
 
I'd always take a scar-veteran - on cold one or on carnosaur. His command ability is awesome.

I don't remember the maths exactly, but with higher number of attacks scar-vet is more benifical. I tend to try and put both of them in my saurus lists.
 
I think a general comparison I have seen is the scar vet's command ability is better if you are focusing on using your command points for that depending on your lists goal, but the oldblood is better in combat? that could be wrong or personal preference

try out the krox, in all my learning games I have found the krox to be a dark horse. they usually get forgotten by my opponent due to other threats and then sneakily walk up and drop a ton of wounds on stuff. there are a lot of cool after market models for them out there too. GW ones are a little dated
