Hello,

Just picked up the Finecast Kroq-Gar and was wondering what type of glue would be best to use. I heard plastic cement is bad with this stuff, and was thinking about using crazy glue.

what do you use?

PS - yes, my wallet is still crying.
 
Plastic cement ONLY works on plastic. :jawdrop:

you need to use some sort of Super Glue on Resin. :pompus:
 
I use gale force 9 hobby glue for anything not plastic. Works great.
 
I used superglue for mine. Cleanup was fiddly though as there was quite a bit of flash and there were some minor miscasted areas. A bit of greenstuff mostly sorted those out. Something that may help is that the finecast resin becomes malleable at high temperatures so you can soak parts of it for a few seconds in boiling water to reposition limbs and suchlike.
 
Another question: What size base is this model suppose to have? In the box, there was a base the the same size as the Stegadon base. I thought it was the 50mm base, or am I wrong, or does it not matter...
 
It used to have the 50mm base now they put it on a chariot. It actually works better in game since it hung so far of the front of the 50mm base.
 
The metal one came on a 50mm base.
 
Yeah use superglue on resin models. And before assembling, check it very carefully for bubbles or miscasts (GW is very prone to crap quality resin kits still), if there is anything obscuring or wrecking details then take it back and get them to replace it.
 
My kroq gar actually had like a 1/2 inch gap on the tail on one side, if one side was flush and in place the other would have a gap, I actually had to greenstuff over it and "sculpt" on scales myself.


I took it back and got them to switch but the same problem was found on all the models, tails not fitting on the carnie, did you have any problems like that?
 
Yeah the tail on mine was about a 1/2 inch wider than the body. I went to take mine back but they were sold out. I kept it and figured I would just green stuff it when I got time.
 
Seems to be a massive mis-mould...

I have yet to assemble this model, but while at the store, the manager wanted to check it out before I went home, to see if there was any problems. We looked it over and it seemed to be ok. I plan to build it today (just got the glue) and I'll report back.
 
I had the same issue with the tail not fitting to the body properly. A bit of greenstuff and some careful carving sorted it out. I bought it from maelstrom just before the embargo cutoff so I'm not going to complain too much about the miscast seeing as it was half the price I could get it here in Australia.
 
This model is brutal.... money not well spent. Been building models of all types for 30 years, and I've never had an experience like this. The tail didn't fit at all, the gaps between the riders body and legs was awful. For $80.00 Canadian, this model is NOT worth it at all. I've been losing faith with GW as time goes on, and this could be the final nail in my gaming coffin. there's a hell of a lot of other things I could've bought (hooby related) with that $$, and I was a fool to purchase this. I will be taking it back, and demanding some sort of exchange. I don't want another crappy Finecast piece of crap.

and I thought metal was bad. Give me metal any day.
 
Actually they kinda reused the metal mold for it... also not the best fitting model either.
I think some of yor problems with massive gaps might be missing on piece of the tail, it comes in several parts.

I'm very pleased that I have the metal one. Failcast is very expensive, and GW claimed the mark up in price was because of the absolutely unmatched quality and detail. The details are absolutely no different, and the quality appears rubbish from what everyone said.

For the price you guys are paying, if the tail is really bad (had no trouble with my metal one) and its not a case of just filing a bit off, keep taking it back. Get them to order a new one for you. There is no way you should put up with a crappy quality sculpt when you are paying so much. Sounds like the gap on the tail is pretty massive, not really acceptable.
 
It's not that there is a gap in the tail, it's like the whole tail was cut in the wrong spot. There's no way to actually line it up. The gaps are huge, and the fit is just bad. Another bonehead move GW has made is cutting staff in my store. 1 guy to look after everything, and for this month he is closed 3 days a week.

I was thinking about biting the bullet, and building this model the way it is. I'll take it with me, unpainted, unmodified and show off the "Fine"cast product.

So I called GW's customer service line, and they are dispatching a new Finecast Kroq Gar to my home. No need to go down to the store, and exchange. The person on the phone told me to keep the one I have, and possible convert it, or use the parts for something else.

That's actually really cool. GW just went up one notch in my book!
 
So the second Kroq-Gar arrived and it too had some flaws, but not to the extent of the first one. I'm building this one, because while the fit is still pretty bad, it's workable.
 
I called GW today and they are sending me a new carnosaur model as well. Ill let you all know how it looks next week. The customer service guy told me repeatedly that the mold is just broken and they all come out that way and that he fixed his with a file and some green stuff.

Oddly enough I have an old metal carnosaur and when comparing the tails the metal tail fits the finecast body dead on. The finecast tail fits the metal body perfectly as well. Even weirder is the metal tail fits the metal body dead on. Not sure what laws of space time get broken when the fine cast tail meets the finecast body that makes that gap so drastic.

A plus to GW is that they are replacing these bad models at no cost to the consumer if you call them up about it. Its nice to know that they have gouged us enough on finecast to replace the models for free. :D
