Blog Explodingzeb's Painting and other stuff blog.

Wow its been ages since I updated this. So I've struggled for painting time the past couple of months and haven't gotten much done unfortunately.

I've nearly finished the shields for my 40 Saurus, and I've been painting my D&D character mini. I still need to finish the skin and hair on him but he's coming along.

Here is Cyron Trailblazer, wood elf shadow monk :

So I finished painting and basing my D&D mini. I'm really pleased with how it turned out. See the last couple of pictures for close ups of the mud and rock that I am weirdly proud of haha.

I've got some decent time off over Christmas so I'm hoping to get more painting done.

Well I finally did it! After months I have finally finished a unit. May I present my completed 40 Saurus with spears:

I'm relieved that they are finished and I'm happy overall with the finished result.

Next on my lockdown to do list is to crack on with my Stegadon that has been neglected for some time.

So I've finished the skin on the Stegadon, however, I'm unsure what to do with the scales. My original plan was to do a darker red on them (can be seen on the darkest parks of the scales) but I think this might be too monotone?
Anyone got any ideas?
Thanks

The stegadon looks lovely so far. Hmm, what about a wash of something like Druchii Violet? Violet is a color that still touches on red, but might shift the scales enough to make them stand out more for you.

Hmmm possibly, I'm not sure it would show up much over the already quite dark scales though. The steg is darker in person.
Thanks for the recommendation though, I may test it on a small section.

I tried out the purple wash and it wasn't really visible unfortunately, thanks for the suggestion though @Just A Skink

Instead I have re-glazed the scales crimson and I'm now in the process of multiple layers of black wash to those areas to get a really solid dark red area. Then I will drybrish those areas very lightly with a lighter tone, maybe a khaki or dark bone colour?
