AoS Examples of Seraphon in Contrast Paints

Hey All,

I've not played AoS in a long while but have been tempted back with a small escalation campaign.

I'm looking for an interesting paint scheme, my last was the standard blue so want something different and am going to try contrast paints.

Does anyone have examples of Seraphon units (mostly the Saurus & Skinks) in different contrast colours?

Or just post what you have and show it off!

The only Seraphon model I have in my collection that I've used contrast paints on is a model of Kroq-Gar on foot.

Only time I have used contrast paint, is hexwraith flame on my nighthaunt.

No, unfortunately. There are no metallic contrast paints.

The metal was first painted with Tamiya Leaf Gold as a base, given a wash of Agrax Earthshade, and then highlighted with Tamiya Titanium Gold as a drybrush.

With that said, the detail work on the spear was done with contrast paints overtop the metallic, since they work as a semi-transparent candycoat when thinly applied (this coincidentally is why it's recommended to use a light basecoat when using contrast paints).

Also how fast was it to do?

The contrast paints don't take very long. Whilst two days passed between start and finish while working on this model, I reckon that the contrast paints alone took me half an hour at most, not including reapplication of wraithbone where needed.

What primer did you use?
Contrast paints don't tend to work well with primers that aren't formulated the way that Wraithbone and Grey Seer are formulated.

I did these in all contrast, minus the yellow for eyes and the metallics.

Hexwraith flame is not a contrast paint

Wow that's amazing. For one week! Looks really good to.

I have been learning a lot about speed painting techniques recently. I think its important to paint fast, because a lot of the time, normally the mistakes are made in the foundations. like choosing a colour scheme. If you spend 6 months on one army, it becomes impossible to find the motivation to start again.

But if you did everything super fast, you care a lot less about changing it later.

The contrast system seems amazing, for getting decent results fast.

I use airbrush and glazes for speed painting. What makes contrast so powerful, it seems is you don't have to plan out how to paint in advance. You just use the colours and off you go. With airbrush and glazes, some colours are easier then others. Also you still have to paint all the small details in and highlight them, so its quite a lot slower then contrast I imagine.

Now that’s more to think about. Was debating between simple colors, contrast, or color shifting paints. May have to buy all and see what feels right.

Yeah, Athermatic for the skin, Talassar for the scales, Skeleton Horde for the claws., toss on some metallics and some little details like eyes and boom, I got 80 of these dudes done in a weekend.

Actually I just layer up another layer of aethermatic for my skinks.
