8th Ed. Dual Slann is back

So, with "50% lords" being added to the main rules through the newest FAQ/Errata
It means that we can return to the days of double-frog tactics...

my question to you though: Is it still viable?

the loss of Focused rumination and the change of becalming really changed the slann game,
and with two diciplins providing 8 spells, is it really worth the extra 300pts for a new lore?

(Sleboda, if you are reading this, you have won me over thinking that the slann is not auto include, and in most cases not worth it. This however is worth a discussion )

Maybe if channeling worked different. A second slann doesn't *really* add that much and he'll be super expensive. I mean sure go ahead and have something 16 spells, book of ashur, channel combo and what not, but we'd be spending 900pts for that lol.

Alternatively one could go somewhat cheap, have the channel combo and pick BRB lores for both. It would still easily be around 700pts..

I think the strenght of the old slanns wasn't just their cheaper price, but also how they actually came with a discipline from the get go - right?

The priec nerf on our slanns are actually quite considerable considering how even the cheapest discipline is 20 points and the most expensive one is 60pts.

You can still get two reasonably effective Slann for about 700 points all told, one with 3x channel and the General, and the other Scroll, BSB and Resivoir. Stick them both on Lore of Light for all the spells plus S5 Banishment.

Fill heroes with Scar-Vets.

Sprinkle some Skinks in Core, add a Temple Guard bunker. Job done.

i don't think it would be a good point investment, PD are still capped at 12 and still random generated. I think lizards need the 50% lords and heroes way less than the other armies, it would be better 50% rares (sallyes )

anyway, tons of cowboys could be fun. Tons of chiefs too

I'll be completely honest.

The 50% lords kind of ruins fantasy for me. Especially lizardmen. It takes a list that had trouble with diversity and makes it completely boring.

You can reasonable have 5-6 oldbloods/scarvet cowboys in your list now and its completely viable.

I'm not sure DS is worth it, especially if you're playing by Victory Points - that's putting a lot of eggs (spawn?) in two baskets.

With 50% Lords/Heroes, I'd much rather spend it on more OB/S-Vets to smash the front-line/hunt characters.

I haven't been playing wfb hat long, so I don't know the glorious old days of dual slann as some of you do. However I have found myself wanting more point in Lord to be able to field both a slann and an OB carnosaur. This is something I might be trying.

Slann High Magic lore master w/ channel combo in TG. He is the army general
Slann Death/Life/Shadow/Light lore naked.


trade two HM offensive spells to your naked slann, and earn the gamechanger spells from BRB lore.

6 dice fiery convocation, or arcane unforging, whatever you like. Try to get the spell you need.

phase 2. Swap the new generated spell for more HM ones. Try to cast them and swap them for more needed spells.

Repeat as long as your second slann is still alive. Well you can lose it in a miscast, but it wont hurt as it isn't your general and it wont hurt your TG.

Your general will be tooled up with the best selection you could do for the turns 4,5,6 where combats decide the tide of the battle.

Hmm... although, this would be an ideal opportunity to replace two Scar-Vet Cowboys with a single Oldblood, which would be a second Oldblood in the list I've been running recently. I could even use it to reintroduce the Oldladdin.

And get the Dawn Stone that I wanted on the first.

... Damnit, I've just found the bright side.

Edit: Oh, damn, and then I could drop my Bastiladon and Cold One Rider Cavalry for that second Light Slann with a Scroll, so there's no more need for a Skink Priest, which leaves me 100 points to spend.

............I am speechless....this is genious....Your general+BSB is safe while you can still 6-dice.

I think this is a prime example is why I don't care for the new rules. Troops will start going by the wayside so that people can fill up on heroes and lords. Tis a sad day in the world of warhammer.

Yes, this is my concern as well. Unfortunately, it just exacerbates the existing balance problems in the Lizardmen book.

And nowadays is when mindrazor becomes the best spell in warhammer.

Guys, the rules clearly states that one model even if its bigger than a house, have hard times breaking a Rank & file unit. It must be supported by another R&F unit or reduce them to less than 5 man.

If you see an army with just Hero & Lord and few core troops then your way to go is kill their support units and see how cheesy hero/lord handle on his own a entire 50% army of R&F troops.

I have many games against chaos warriors and the pattern is always the same, tarpit and combo charge the units im sure to destroy. While the cheesy is earning 30% of his points value back.
Of course thing will not always go as planned. But is more related to dice roll than not having anything to do.

So back in mindrazor. You keep the R&F and boost your bunch of harmless attacks into deadly attacks. You only need to hit. Wounding on 2+ and forcing Ward-saves / regeneration.

So yes, there's always an answer, this game is paper , rock and scissors.

People who voluntarily charge lone characters into units are doing it wrong, especially when those models have the advantage of flight.

You are not charging lone characters, you put the pressure on them to make them decide wether stay out of close combat where he can be targeted by magic / shooting or charge your blocks.

The tip here is to find a good sinergy to the old dual slann list. Well i see its still good.
