8th Ed. Dual Slann 2250 - help on composition!

Ok, well, on what grounds do you believe the slaan shouldn't ride the carpet,
RAW please, since we don't know what they intended when they forbade transform.

Without that FAQ on the transformation there is no reason why the Slann can not ride the carpet. It is just the reasoning behind the no, it makes zero sense to forbade transformation without classifying the Slann as not on foot(not necessarily becoming cavalry or anything, just an exception under infantry). If they just did because of the question about the chair after the transformation, that implies is the Slann is riding a palanquin so he is not on foot. Now of course this is assuming GW has sense when it comes to rules, and that is a lot to assume. In all fluff and even in the Slann's character description of his 4+ ward, he is riding a palanquin. He just does not have the explicit rule of not being on foot.

But right now going explicitly by the book and FAQ the Slann can ride the carpet. But I wouldn't be surprised if that changes in the next FAQ. And you shouldn't be surprised if some people will argue that he can't ride the carpet. I won't use a carpet because I don't think it fits with the fluff and what was intended with the rules, but if someone else wants to I have no problem with it. But some people will have a problem with it.

I would just see the carpet as a badass new/old Palanquin!

RAW is all we can go on in this case.

But you can't just ignore the implications with the No from the FAQ on transformation. The only reason to even ask if a Slann can cast it is a question as to whether he is on foot or not.

This will be an open issue until GW clarifies it one way or the other.

I think you're just reading too far into the 'No'. The only reason I can see GW being so blase about it is that it's only regarding the one issue.

People on the internet think too hard.

I can only say that I agree with Kurlin.

My opinion is that GW has just been to lazy. They should have specified why he can't use the spell, but the only reason I can see for the impossibility to use the spell is because he shouldn't be counted as on foot.

As for the magic carpet on a slann, fluffwise I think it's kinda stupid. It's a giant frog, on a big stone-throne, on a carpet, that flies.

Use the smoke and mirrors instead. Waaay cooler.

Personally I think it's because it's the chair that grants the slaan his ward save, can you imagine a mouton chimera with a 4++?

The unit is comparable hand I can think of a champion of Nurgle the palanquin. It still counts as an infantryman, according to the rulebook bestiary, but it gives a backup of armor and provides other attacks.
