Hey I love the idea of conversions but I want to know if tournaments allow them. Also do official tournaments (GW tournaments) allow them? My friend won’t let me do any unless you could in a GW tournament.

Yep lol it is. So do non official tournaments allow it? And does Gw allow it?
Personally I wouldn't play against someone who made such stipulations... but that is just me. I do not serve. I rule!

As to your original question, I can't speak with certainty, but I imagine that conversions would be fine. With GW tournaments I would suspect that the majority/all of the bits used in the conversion would have to come from GW kits or scratch built from green stuff. Of course the conversion has to accurately resemble the unit... you can't just field random things and call it a conversion.

Are you thinking of basic conversions like head or weapon swaps or something far more extensive?

I haven't played in tournaments though, so hopefully someone on here can give you are more definitive answer.

For example the saurus Knight to scarvet on cold one
EDIT: I just googled GW tournament rules and conversions are allowed as long as you can tell what it is supposed to be.

Most GW tournaments will stipulate that 50% of any given model needs to be GW and needs to be easily recognizable as the unit it represents. Most tournaments also make it clear that modeling to advantage is not allowed. Such as making a model have a smaller profile to gain cover or affect line of sight more easily.

Usually. ...and Yes.

With those ^ caveats observed,...

Conversions are usually praised and awarded.

If the tournament scores Army Painting, interesting conversions will help the score.

Conversions are always appreciated, if not encouraged, as long as the new model is clearly recognizable as what it stands for, and as long as base characteristics (size etc) ar respected (this is to avoid advantages). In a GW environment at least 50-70% is supposed to be GW material.

Tell your friend he's evil, he must be playing Skaven.

Lol I told him and he said I could also he isn’t playing Skaven. He plays khorne lol so he’s arguably more evil lol.

For tournaments it's as @LizardWizard and @GuaDan say the model most be identifiable.

For gaming at Warhammer world it must be almost all GW, if you look on the Warhammer world wedsite and look to book a table it stipulates models most be GW and if converted they must be with GW parts.

  • All models must be Games Workshop in full. This does not extend to bases, but includes all weapons, heads, arms legs, wings and so on.
Which in my opinion is fair, your gaming there so GW only, but tournaments elsewhere you will get away with parts not GW.

Hence why my latest conversions whereby new builds - simply kit bashing with a few blobs of green stuff - I get a fully converted army that stands out from the crowd - GW are happy because they all come from their overpriced store ;D (just don’t tell them you bought the bits on eBay for cheap) :P

ok I'm not that bad, 1: im jealous i didn't think of it first. Lol and 2: I would allow him to use the Saurus Oldblood on Carnosaur as a Saurus Scar Veteran on Carnosaur b/c he is an expensive model, but a Saurus Knight as a Saurus Scar Veteran on Cold One is a little ridiculous. b/c its only $17 on GW. unless he did some pretty epic stuff to the knight which would probably cost more than the actual model

@TheCrazyKhorneGuy

That's fair enough, we all have different thresholds. As long as I know what is what, I absolutely don't mind conversions or even full on proxying.

I think the ScV on CO would just need to stand out enough. Even the GW one look pretty similar when surrounded by Suaurs Knights. lol

Does Khrone have a devoted website? Us Seraphon players are spoiled by Lustria Online.

You can literally make the scar vet on cold one from the Knight box. Mine is from my start collecting box because they give us stupid numbers. Is that to ridiculous for you. Why would I buy one when it can very easily be made.
