8th Ed. combined?

So the list is getting shorter for armies we can be combined with .....

ogres
dwarfs
empire
o and g
brets
skaven

any guesses ?

brets and empire will probably combine (and dwarfs)

ogres and orcs (possible)

which leaves us with skaven (before you say we are enemies just look at the elves now)
 
None of the other armies fit us thematically, which is what seems to be determining the combinations atm. I imagine we'll either be left alone, or dropped (which I doubt - dinosaurs sell well).
DEs and HEs were enemies, but intertwined intimately through shared racial history/fluff, aesthetics, and similar rules. I don't think their merger sets a precedent for something like Skaven and LM combining. Dirty rats.

I imagine the final armies to be:

Undead Legions (TK & Vampire Counts)
Legions of Chaos (Warrios, Beastmen & Daemons)
Elves (WE, HE & DE)
Humans (Empire & Bretonnia - maybe Dwarves, or even Ogres?)
O&Gs (possibly merged with Ogres)
Skaven
Lizardmen

I can see Ogres possibly merging with Dwarves also.

but I don't want to be left alone unless we get new units that fill in our weaknesses like undead got. now vc have shooting and don't crumble.

if we don't get combined I just hope we get and uber god like character

its fine skaven kill their own slaves all the time just pretend its a slave up there

Skaven and O&G have always been 'agents of chaos' who always have their own agenda at hand, no one else's. Given this 'third wheel' role they play in the fluff, it is not completely out of line that they would work together in times of great need. If all the other races hate you (Elves, Humans, Dwarfs, Undead, Daemons, Lizardmen, etc.) why wouldn't these two armies come together in the effort of mutual survival?

Ogres are just mercenaries and would work with anyone to survive. While LM and OK live on opposite sides of the world, the LM have plenty of gold to pay the OK to be their allies. Ogres were created by the Old Ones after all.

This is theory-hammer at its worst.
 
Ogres and O&G? Super unlikely, if you ask me. They are near incompatible, both in terms of fluff, but also rules. Orcs don't have anywhere near enough ressources to hire them, and their usual way of leading an army is just too alien for the Ogres.

As much as I would love my Lizardmen and skaven army to fight alongside each other, it just seems too farfetched without copious amounts of backstabbing.

I don't see the issue proposed for a Lizardmen / Ogre merge. Lizardmen are making an exodus, after all, so their "location" can be anywhere in the world for all we know.

This must be how all remaining Lizardmen feel.

Their entire point for existence has ceased. The grand plan has failed.

They has no reason to be, no chance to reconnect with their ancient masters. Their only hope is to forget what came before and start anew.

Some will obsess on trying to rebuild the plan and will seek out lost plaques and artifacts.
Others will turn their hearts hard and attempt to destroy what is left, knowing that the mortal races are not worthy of the scraps they have left.
The remaining groups will live out their lives as sell-swords and wizards for hire, trying to fill the holes in their souls and fine new meaning.

In game terms, this means they will be lumped in with Ogres and Orcs as races that will work for anyone as mercenaries.
 
Not sure I'd necessarily agree, though it's a theory as good as any other : ) It's not like a reasonable story line will be the guiding principle behind the changes in the fluff anyhow. Guidance like that is what they have their sales department for.

While the Slann seems prone to waffling and might be more likely to react like you suggest, the Skinks seems crafty enough and as Tehenhauin shows, quite capable of acting on their own. I'm not sure the skinks need the largely absent high priests of their quirky religion. Tehenhauin bypassed the Slanns when he felt it was necessary and it could be done again.

Besides, I'd argue that the Lizardmen in fact comes from an earlier version of the genetic strain which eventually resulted in the Tyranids. And what did the Tyranids do when the old ones disappeared? Did they roll over and die? Not so. The Tyranids adapted and became what their creators could never have imagined. Then they began to throw their weight around.

Lizardmen don't quit. It's not in their nature, not in their genes. They'll regroup and find another way. They might die trying but they won't give up their ambitions and work for anyone merely in order to feed themselves.
 
Yeah, I don't really see Lizards taking the sell-sword route. *shrug* I'm excited to see what GW has in store for them, in any case!
 
well, i really hope they don't make us mercenaries, because i don't think slanns and sauri could sell their own strenghts to anyone (ie chaos worshippers). I hope we'll keep standing alone with some buffs (good SCs for sure, but even something like sacred spawnings: beastmen got chaos marks, didn't them?), but if we have to get mixed to another army, then i'm with the ogres for background reasons (as stated before, common origins and gold), but possibly without gnoblars (greenskins just don't fit well with lizardmen). Anyway i think lizardmen, dwarfs, skavens and OnG are too unique to mix them with other armies, while undead unions, human unions and elven unions sound better.
And regarding this exodus... I really hope there are many spawning pools outside lustria, bacause otherwise we could be dropped

A big trend in the End Times books appears to be the relocating of each army/race to the Old World. Maybe the LM will base themselves in Albion (there's a new Temple City being built there, and the Slann could raise new land to accomodate the LM), or move everyone to the Southlands?
 
How about with teclis army?

In my opinion elves got split into 2 for now tiron and malekith, and teclis was left alone and not a part of any army, wich leaves room for a third army "the atmy of sapheri"


He sems to be left out in the elves armies, i havent read the book yet so I dont know if he died and thats the reason , but maybe he is still not done and some loyal servants have join his cause and he needs the help of masdamundy or something like that to finish his plan against chaos.

This would male sense since caledor also needed the help of the lizardman to create the vortex.

Interesting. In the ET: Khaine book it's stated that *spoilers* Malekith becomes the supreme leader of all the elves after the defeat of Tyrion. So all the elves are (currently) unified. The fate of Teclis is left unclear: the final part of Curse of Khaine says he was last seen cradling Tyrion's body in his arms as the Island of the Dead sinks.
However, it also says he has managed to bind the Wind of Light into his staff, which suggests he may come back as a magical incarnate for Light (or his staff will become a MacGuffin). His primary goal was to elevate eight mortals into incarnates for the Winds of Magic to combat the Chaos Gods, considering that he partially succeeded (with Alarielle, Malekith, Nagash, Teclis's staff, and a strongly hinted Karl Franz) I'm not sure what else may be left in his plans. Who can tell with the End Times!
 
I don't see us being lumped in with anyone, and I really don't think GW are gonna drop any armies. I'm guessing we'll just be as we are now.

I've seen rumours as well that 9th will be set before the End Times stuff anyway.
 
The Elves have failed. Time to back a new, less arrogant race. Long live Humanity! Heirs to the Old Ones!

First order of business. All Steggies get cannons on their backs...

The Southlands, now we're talking! Makes sense to me. An exodus from Lustria, rediscovering the Southlands, making room for new characters, and possibly new units. And we could ally with the Dwarves in the World's Edge Mountains. Or maybe the Old Ones will come pick us up in their star ships and bring us to the new tropical planet they've been working on.

I would think that 9th edition would have to be set before the End Times, because otherwise they've pretty much ruined everything. Anyone wonder if it really is the End Times, and they're just calling it quits after this? Going out with a bang.

Please no. Not another storm of chaos event. It's utterly pointless to make these kinds of plot advancements, if they are just going to retcon everything afterwards.

I sincerely hope they make everything stick, no matter what happens.
