8th Ed. Carnosaur. Hell Yeah!

Hi. I was reading this forum for a while and after a few battles on 8th edition I decided to ask for help.
I just LOVE using carnosaur. Battle without him is lost for me, even when I'm doing massacre. Problem is that my friend with whom I'm playing most of the time is using High Elves builded around Archmage with Book of Hoeth :rolleyes: ( death or - which is even worse - shadow ). I like playing vs him becouse it is like watching good thriller, I just hate loosing Carno too fast.

My question is:
- Is there any possibilities to protect my beloved, ass-kicking ,half-intelligent crocodile riding T-rex?
- What are your tactics of using him?

P.S. I hate Slann. Don't want to use him/

So he blitzes the carnosaur with magic? Well, since you can't hope to dispel irresistable force, the only way to stop the magic is to kill him before he kills you. Archmages are very soft targets. If he is on his own or in a small unit, shoot with skinks and salamanders. If he is in a large unit, charge. The carnosaur should do a nice job of it actually, provided the unit he hides in isn't swordmasters or white lions because they will chop you up before you get to hit.

So... Where does the mage usually hang out?
 
well teh oldblood hasa decent I afaik so I tests shouldn't be a problem, i can see the problem with death tough, some nasty character killing spells.


also, regarding the subject, if pit of sahdes is cast on a steg for example, do you use the I of every model that tests or the biggest I in the "unit"(model)

Usually in a horde of White Lions. But yeah. As i think about it now: salamanders should be a good solution.

I made tests for both rider and his mount.
 
Cube of Darkness can buy you a turn if he fails to get IF on the first spell.
 
It's a one shot wonder but you might feel like trying two lvl 2 skink priests or perhaps a lvl 2 on EofG and another lvl 2. Then give one the BSoS and bane head. While this might be dispelled depending upon how much other magic he has besides the archmage if you save two dice at the end of the phase and cast a lot of cheep spells to eat up his dispel dice there is a good chance you'll kill off his mage.

Another item you might try is the feedback scroll. Wait till he throws five or six dice and pop that sucker out and watch his mage go 'poof'. I've used both of these items before against opponents I'm expecting to go magic heavy and it works wonders.
 
I would suggest taking a war spear a.steg with the carno as it means most of the time he has to choose to attack one or the other before you blast him in combat and taking a skink priest with dispel scroll/ cube of darkness can keep magic at bay for a turn or 2 by which point you should be in combat.

By the way what is the BSoS.

Do all double also cause him to roll on the miscast table, because I do not see how you could survive rolling on that table more then a couple times. I would suggest either the feedback scroll or the cursed charm of tepok.

No it does not and that is why Teclis and the Book of Hoeth are broken in the current edition.

I tried it once. It is good vs normal mage but not vs one with BoH. If I understand it correctly you may use this instead of dispelling. In that case I just can't use it, becouse on 5 or 6 dices he always get IF.


Edit:

I tried once an army of carnosaur, skinks skirmishers ( filling 25% of core ) and 50 terradons ( 3000 pts. game ). It was strange, but worked ( my friend love using enormous blocks. Thanks to this and being an expensive elf, he had only 3 units in the field. None of them was able to shoot. I don't think he will make such a mistake anymore.
 
Do you convert your terradons or something as 50 terradons come to about £600 in England as they are £10.50 each.

A double 6 is the only thing that will make him roll on the miscast table, don't forget to make him do it!!

Yup. Converted. My friends know that I like building strange armies and they allow me to do this ( as long as this army lists are really weird ).

You'd have hated my terradons last night then! They may have looked like cold ones but it was all an optical illusion!
 
Just curious, when a carnosaur inflicts D3 wounds does that just affect a single model with mulitple wounds or the whole unit.

For instance; a carnosaur causes a wound on a unit of empire swordsmen (unlikely, it should cause at least 2) and the player rolls 3 wounds, does this mean that 3 swordsmen are dead or that the one wounded swordsman is now very dead?

Also does a Carnosours thunderstomp inflict D3 wounds :bored:

The wounds from a "multiple wound" attack is NOT carried over to other models. So in the example you stated, only one swordsman would die. (see page 45 of the rule book)

The Carno's thunderstomp does NOT inflict D3 wounds. Stomps and Thunderstomps are not effected by any additional special rules (besides ASL) or magic items. (see FAQ)

....additionally, remember that stomps/thunderstomps can only affect infantry, war beasts or swarm units
