8th Ed. Cancon 2015 Kroak kroak kroak...

Just got back from Cancon 2015, first time rocking lizards! Had to paint up 2400 points in about 3 weeks but i was fairly stoked with it by the end!

My list:

Kroak!!
Oldblood on foot with glittering scales, pot of speed, sword of striking, luckstone, shield
Scarvet cowboy with gw, dawnstone, dragonhelm, ots
skink priest on heavens with cube
skink priest on beasts with scroll of shielding

2x10 skinks with blowpipe
14 skink cohot with javelins & muso
34 Saurus

6 cold ones with FC and spears
39 temple guard

Swedish comp of 15.4!

Was obviously a rock hard list, and compted softer than it should have been, but that didn't make it unique.

I was happy with where I got to 19th out of 122 players! A bit a luck in a couple of games could have swung things more in my way, but that said the top 15-20 players in Aus are very good and can break down tough lists in lots of ways. Kroak of course basically ate up 3 MSU high elf armies almost single handedly, his spell is amazing, especially backed up by a skink on heavens and beasts for if he loses concentration or you need a buff.

Kroak didn't have it all his way, I lost one game 15:5 after being dwellers off by K Fateweaver (skillz!). That was AFTER two 24" bubbles of Kroak doing 3d6 S4 hits on half his army and doing like 1 wound to a flamer (no skillz!). Definitely will keep pursuing a list like this though. Obviously its not as tough without Kroak, but plenty of Slanns could make it just as competitive with a good player.

A sad mention should go to my scar vet cowboy who had a fairly horrendous time. For very little output he died 6 times:
1. Failing two dangerous terrain tests in a swamp! (he was born in a swamp for crying out loud!)
2. After his bus lost a few wounds to leadbelchers, then KB'd by a scrap launcher (the only rider who was KBed of course!)
3. to a rein of chaos table result
4. and 5. to spirit leach
6. torn apart in a combat with 8 varghiests

Did they house rule the spell for 360 and into combat?

Don't you mean: Did they allow the spell to work as designed?

HOUSE RULE: using that term seems to imply that a decision has been reached on that discussion.

This does not mean I want to start that discussion over again but a more neutral phrasing would appreciated.

Having said that, the tourneys, The Alamo. the Lone Wolf, and Shiloh Slaughter have all allowed the spell to hit people in combat and in 360 degree bubble. They have also made the same interpretation for the Engine of the Gods.

Besides that, I definitely agree that different interpretations of a rule is not house -ruling.

IMO House rule is quite the opposite. That's when you HAVE agreed to an interpretation, but play it differently because it's more fun or you agree that it's a silly or badly written rule that should really work differently.

To me, a house rule can fall in 2 categories:
1) An intentional alteration to a basic rules.
2) A determined interpretation of an unclear rule.

BOTH categories are House rules, in my opinion, because the alteration/interpretation applies to ALL games being played in the group or at the location/event. Rule interpretations and alterations are not made by individual players in individual games (where they may differ from opponent to opponent & game to game), but by the group/owners/organizers so that everyone is playing 'the same way'. It's all in an effort to minimize arguments and maximize fun.

Obviously, my definition of 'house rule', would mean that everyone plays by a 'house rule' whether they know it or not. And I'm OK with that, because I've 'house ruled' on the definition of what a 'house rule' is!

they also ruled he cannot lose concentration as his rule states that he can continue to cast the spell as long as he has power dice to do so.
