AoS Can you chose and pick your army from different warscrolls?

If I just interpret the part of the rules that cover this, it is possible.

Though does this means I can bring units from different warscrolls within the same order, or from all?

I.e. can I field some Lizardmen (Seraphon) and at the same time some Skaven and WoC?
 
It sounds that way so far, yes.
 
It sounds like absolutely anything can go, there are no boundaries or restrictions of any type.
 
I think the idea is for players to form these mixed forces out of the armies that are part of the same factions. It seems implied but it is not explicitly stated.
I'm assuming that GW will either clarify this with Errata and update the rules to show such. Or as new books and rules come out that can be used in a modular kind of fashion one will elaborate on this.

So skaven ratmen never ever being in the same force as lizardmen.

But, a Slann and some temple guard and their grail knight buddies might could be a thing?

Yep, at least I gather this is the intention given the emphasis they are placing on the 4 different factions and the many races/subfactions within them. Kind of how the Imperial forces in 40k can all be in eachothers army.
And we could even use this to make cool fluff or re-enact events taking place in the past (old World):
  • Lizardmen of the Southlands fighting with Dwarves of the Lost hold of Karak Zorn to strike against a horde of Savage orcs.
  • A cohort cut off from the geomantic lines and whittled down by the forces of Chaos joins forces with a lance of Bretonian knights, a handfull of elven archers, an Imperial wizard and a battery of dwarven war machines to make one final stand against a host of Chaos united.
  • A force of skinks and treasure hunters and dark elves try to destroy skaven leaders in a daring raid.
and so on...
 
Suspect that GW doesn't want to place any restriction on army compositions. That way each new model they create can be targeted at every single AoS player. If every model is usable in every army, they have a greater chance of selling more models.

Is QFT still a thing? Or is that just something us old folks did in the last decade? Either way - QFT.

This is already kindof a thing in 40K. There's a tiny bit of restriction [something about "Battle Brothers" or allies only "Come the Apocalypse"], but little enough that even tournament goers frequently have 2-3 wildly unrelated factions in the same army.

To be honest, while I dislike the mixing of factions it does make business sense. Imagine you previously had a player who collected Lizardmen and WoC, if a great Tomb King or Dark Elves kit was released that he/she really liked, it would still be unlikely that he/she would buy it because they can't field it. Now everything is fair game, if you play Lizardmen but you love the casket of souls model, you can buy it and put it into your army. Similarly, people can go around and cherry pick powerful units from any faction to add into their army list. This could really help GW sell more models. I personally hate it, but I can understand the underlying strategy behind it.
 
I understand how it would make business sense. If I end up liking any of the new models but don’t want to start a new army, I can always buy and put it on the table with my Lizards!
 
I would say yes, you can use whatever you like in your army. But the synergy would be ruined as some buffs only target units with the Seraphon key word or celestial. Its best to try to link factions which share similar keywords to maximise synergy, which is one of the few ways to apply strategy to this game.

I am loving the Stormcast (starter set units) combined with my lizards. My usual opponents Skaven being teamed with the Goretide. Makes for some interesting battles.
 
I think the intention is that you at least stay within your faction (out of the big 4).
 
Hmmm. What if you took a dark elf cold one chariot and replaced the dark elves with skinks? If you modified the warscroll, would any of you allow it in battle?
 
Since i began this hobby last oct, i always thought you could only mix units from within the 4 factions. I asked my local GW store and they said that was the intention, but since it was not 100% clear in the rules players can do what they want. So since many new players have taken up this hobby with the thought of "take what ever you want" corporate sees no point in making that rule clear. the manager told me they will keep implying it with the lore and the way that the armies are set up in White dwarf.

Cool cheers. Its going to be my 2nd ever conversion (the first was an ok attempt at basing a skink oracle. You know, the one that rides a troglodon?) and im looking forward to it.
 
Rules as written you can make your army using ANY warscroll - there's no limitations at all. If you really wanted to you could buy the AoS started box and use the whole thing as a single army. Is it open to abuse? Yes, lots of AoS is open to abuse. Is it a bad thing? I don't think so. I've picked up models here and there that I would never have made an army from. Now I can field my unit of Chaos Warriors, Zombies, Skeletons and Horrors alongside one another under the stern leadership of my Skaven Warlord. It makes the game more accessible to hobbyist type gamers who collect more than play. It also lets you make pretty cool themed armies. Pre-sundering Elves, Tyrion's elven skeleton army from Khaine, Priesthood of Morr themed Empire/Undead and whatever you can really think of.

Actually it's not really open to abuse, synergy is the name of the competitive side to the game and that doesn't work with mixed armies. You'll notice that all our badass buffs that can turn our guys into total lethal death machines are specified to only work for Seraphon. And the same goes for other armies, the only army that can really mix are Tomb Kings with Vampires and even then that greatly handicaps their synergy as they have very different focuses with their buffs and abilities that clash very heavily.
 
I haven't played any competitive AoS yet but I agree with that statement - synergy and scenarios plays a much greater part in this game than raw power. You CAN take armies comprised of any Warscrolls you like, but whether you SHOULD or not really depends on what you're trying to achieve.

I had more to say on this but it became ranty and nothing that hasn't been said before so I'll cut myself short before I make a fool of myself!
