7th Ed. can this really happen?

so i had a two on two yesterday(dwarfs and dark elves vs. lizards and skaven) and well, my team won by massacre but what happened in the beginning got me thinking "is that right?"

my EotG charged into a unit of 18 Dark Elf spearmen with dreadlord in it. the guy reveals an assasin as well. the guy has an ASF banner so his assassin starts off and i know about the amount of attacks he can get but he got 9 attacks in which 8 hit and he had a special item that makes him 1 str more than my toughness so he chopped up my steg quickly. i was stunned. has this happened to anyone else? just curious.

btw, the engine plus some innocent skinks were the only models lost for lizzies in this game. surprised.
 
Well I can quite clearly remember when a certain skaven assassin assassinated my own EoTG on the charge once, so I guess it can happen since DE assassins are far better than the old skaven ones.

That sounds a little bit over the top.. They are pretty insane though. There is a points limit for the magic items they can take, you should check his army book next time and make sure he hasn't gone over it. But they are nuts considering they don't even take a character slot.

Also I hope you remembered that even with ASF, your impact hits should have gone before the assassin so you could have taken a few down with you.
 
yeah. i remembered that. i took 1 guy down with me. :D
 
I play dark elves also and that thing that makes the strength higher is the manbane poison. but it can only go to a maximum of strength 6 so he might have cheated you, im not sure.
And an assassin has three attacks base, plus extra hand weapon, plus rune of khaine which adds d3 attacks so 7 is the max you can have so i have no idea how he got 9 attacks unless there was a cauldren of blood which makes that 8.
I think the guy you played cheated you.

NNNNOOOOOO!!!!!!! HOWWWW!!!!!! I WAS CHEATED!!!! MY POOR ENGINE. i'm a friendly player. i like to win but i like to trust my opponents when they tell me things and man, this changes everything when they take out an engine so easily. he tells me that he's str 7 because i'm T6 and yes he rolled 9 dices for attacks.

I'M TAKING THIS OUT ON THE VERY NEXT DARK ELF PLAYER I PLAY.
 
Yeah if something seems really powerful it is generally a good idea to ask your opponent exactly how they came to the stats they did. Nothing wrong with that. I've questioned opponents on many occasions, and some of my combos have been questioned. Never had anything illegal come up though.

Ultimately the best thing to do is know your opponent's army as well as you know your own by reading the other army books, but really that seems like a lot of effort especially if you are just playing socially/for fun.
 
yeah, im sorry man. Assassins are mean but not that mean. I hate people that cheat on purpose, and that guy sounds like he did it on purpose. It clearly states that the manbane poison can only go to strengh 6 and i have no idea how he got to 9 attacks.

Who knows? i guess there are just people like that out there.
 
couldnt he have taken the sword of striking or whatever and gotten an extra attack with that? , then taken an additional hand weapon for another?. 9 attacks does sound crazy tho.

well sword of striking only gives a +1 to hit and you can't have a magical weapon and an additional hand weapon. i believe that's illegal.

Yeah you can't do it, but it is quite possible the opponent didn't know that because he didn't read the books closely enough. You see plenty of army lists being posted with simple mistakes. From those who have read it though, it does sound like the max s6 is pretty clearly explained...
 
I mean... maybe question that guy the next time you play him when he claims to have a guy that has 9 attacks or str 7 or whatever, but I don't think you should take it out on the next guy who had nothing to do with it...

I think attitudes like that really ruin the game. I mean, we really don't know anything about this guy so maybe he's new or maybe he's young or whatever. You won anyway, never mind by a massacre, which makes me think this guy is just inexperienced.

I've been playing Tyranids for years and under the old rules I used a carnifex with 4 TL devourers to take out a Monolith which is clearly against the rules. But, unless you've played tyranids a bunch, you probably don't know that. I'm sure this guy just got caught up with all the special dark elf assassin rules that he missed that part.
If you play him again, don't "take it out on him." And certainly don't "take it out" on the next dark elf player you meet because that isn't fair.

don't worry. i'm not going to take it out on anyone. i was just kiddin. i love this game and i like to play for fun. i am more experienced than that guy i played and i'm not worried. it was basically my own fault for not checking his book before continuing on with the game. but not to worry. i'm a fun guy to play against!!
 
Assassins cant take normal magical weapons so the sword of battle isnt possible unless he cheated again. Assassins can only take 75 points of Gifts of Khaine, which is a smaller list of specialized magic items for them and hags.
 
you know. i just realized i should of checked his stuff out. i just remembered that he tried revealing 2 assassins in one unit when i know you could only hide 1 in a unit. i need to read that dark elf book.
 
Yeah, I've had to read through the skaven book for similar things...

Also had to explain to a Lizardmen player why you can't take the discipline which lets you know every spell in a lore... for every lore.
And that the 4+ on Comet of Cassandora is what you roll every turn after you cast the spell to see if it comes down... you don't get to cast the Comet on a 4+

Some people really just don't understand the rules, which if fine but you have to expect it and be ready to explain.
