Hey guys, I'm joining a campaign at my local GW and representing the lizardmen in a year long campaign. :D

For the first week, our army lists are restricted to 1 hero and 1 core so that the games will be quick and lots of gamers will get chances to play.
The idea is to design a hero and then make it legal by fielding enogh core to balance the percentages. So I was wondering what the best combo would be? I've considered:

Scar Vet with Saurus
Skink Chief with Skrox
Skink Chief with Skirmishers
And finally, a little overkill, EOTG and saurus horde!

I would just like some suggestions as too what I should choose, points do not matter as long as they are balanced (whoever has the least points gets extra campaign points anyway!)

skink priest and skrox unit, giving u something in all areas of the game :)

I totally agree.

Priest with Skrox is your best choice here! A Priest will be more worthy than a Chief 9 out of 10 times oO

While I agree that that would be the best combo, I dont really want a skink priest on foot as my general, as if he dies there are repurcussions in the campaign, and skink preists arent the most survivable buggers in the world. :D

Edit: he also isnt allowed to take magic items :(

Ive given it more thought and weighed my options, and I think I'll go with skrox and a lvl 2 skink priest, I'll just keep him out of combat!

Thanks for the advice guys! :)

Wait, are all heroes not allowed magic items or just the priest for some reason?

It applies to all heroes, basically magic items must be earned over the course of the campaign.

Think I would Go with a scarvet and a block of Saurus myself,
they are going to be realy tough to beat at this point level,
and they will still be fairly usefull later.

In that case I agree with n810, a basic scar vet is exceedingly difficult to beat with most core units and many heroes if they can't take magic items, the scar vet with rip people apart, since you talked about and engine, you can take mounts, a scar vet on a cold one, 1+ armour save!! Though stupidity is a bit more of a risk without a BSB or a slann

You see that was what I was thinking at the start, scar vet would be most survivable which is important in a campaign, plus he deals a hell of a lot of damage for one model, so yet again I'm undecided :p

Its either:
Skink Priest
Lvl 2

38 Skinks
FC
3 Krox

OR

Saurus Scar-Veteran
Light Armour
Shield
Cold One

33 Saurus Warriors
FC

Hmm, tough choices. Why not take a Scar-vet with Skrox? Models don't have to match, do they? That way your whole army is moving at the same speed (more or less). I'd hate to see your SV go into combat unsupported. Plus that way you can have some shooting.

I like the second build more, much more survivable, give the scar vet a spear. Strength 6 on the charge!

Scar vet and friends are sounding better and better :)
