So, with a new tome on the way, I now have to decide: physical or digital. What I am wondering is what the peanut gallery uses to build lists. Do you use an app or paper?

I went ahead and subscribed to the Age of Sigmar Azyr app. I personally like it quite a bit.

I've been getting a lot of mileage out of Battlescribe. Its free, provides a handy point of reference, and is updated frequently.

That said, I'd prefer to be using pen and paper so I don't have to stare at a screen during the game. I'll be getting a hard copy of the new battletome at the first opportunity.

So, you’ve gone full digital. Do you find it slowed you down at first?

From digital to paper. Interesting. Got sick of electronics?

A little, yes. Especially when it comes to looking up rules. I like how it lets you build the list with all the warscrolls available by just tapping back and forth from your army screen. The ability to download the battleplans into the battle list is pretty nice. It's also nice not to have to haul multiple books or stacks of paper with you to every game. Being able to build a list fast and to have multiple lists saved is very helpful.

The cons for me are as I mentioned it can be slower than having books open to key pages when you have to look up rules. I added a lot of bookmarks into each book I have on file to circumvent this, but I did have to put in the effort to add all the bookmarks that I needed.

Also, since it's an official GW product, everything's behind a paywall. You get the warscrolls, but everything else requires you to buy the book it comes from, there's no option to buy most items individually. So some of the warscroll battalions for example I can add to my army list, but I can't read the description because I haven't bought the book that battalion comes from, but none of the important ones fall in the category.

Basically. I spend as much time staring at a screen and scrolling through rules as I do interacting with my opponent. I realised that was the case, and it was detracting from our enjoyment of playing.

But that's a personal choice, I can't deny the apps' functionality.
