Blog Birthing a New Army

A have only one advice: Poster putty for you, my friend :)

Seriously, I use it even to transport models home and while my tin can bounces in my car, models are solid rock. Plus it is reusable, I´ve had three packages mixed together to single ball from which I nibble away when I need to hold models during painting and I use them for last 4 years.

Thanks for the tip, I will give it a shot! I ended up coating it with a matte varnish so I could handle it more without the paint and primer sliding off the metal when my hands heat it up while working on it.

Yeah, I know that feeling. What primer do you use? I had the same issue with vallejo primers in bottles. They are awesome for plastic, but I get variable results on resin minis and metal is pretty much the same as you described. I moved to "mr.color surfacer 1000" for bought resin and metal minis. It holds perfectly.

I use rustoleum flat black primer (specifically not paint+primer). It's cheap as chips when it is in stock at a local hardware store; amazon was gouging it for $25-33 a can when it was out of stock in the states.

Edited: I asked a question you already answered

Telly night with the wife means I had to swap over to building for the night from painting, didn't think to snap a pick until I had them all loaded back up in sardine cans, but had fun trying to shake up arm and leg positions on a pile of warriors, freshly clipped off the sprue. 44 in total, all have heads, most have a weapon, 16 are actually fully slapped together.

Finally got all of my Saurus Warriors tossed together. Some minor conversions here and there. Mostly reposing arms and heads as well as some goofy weapons here and ther

Great progress, nice to see you change them up along the way!
It will be a good looking bunch of Sauri for sure

Home stretch for my monthly goal! Already have all of my warriors built; I just need to do the gold trim, the tusks, and the critters on the slann model itself!

First off, pardon for all the out of focus shots

What you don't know is that I did those three little green leaves there, and some shadows under the leaves and the vines.

And here is where I realized how much of my work was going to get covered up and glued up. Aw well, I can tell how much better I am getting for all pf the practice already!

Cool Slann! An extremely unique paint job. Very nice work!

He is looking like a cool dude
I love the color of the palanquin as well, nice stone effect.

Makes me want to continue on mine

As far as I got by the end of the month. I still need to paint up the three lizards (one on the front, two in back 30 min tops...err knowing me, make it an hour), but then I just need to base it. I want to go full on jungle on it, but I would love some very picky advice on sourcing jungle plants so I don't have to make greenstuff plants for a full army!

Looks fantastic!

Now I can't vouch for how good it is or cost effective, but you should at least check out the Gamers Grass website. They at the very least look interesting.

I have seen them before, and I think I actually have one of their variety flowers packs that I use for my tundra bases! Me also thinks that one of the local hobby shops has these in stock right now.

What do you think of them quality wise, ease of use?

The flowers are pretty standard tufts though with slightly randomized shapes to look more natural. They are slightly tacky in bottom, but still need a drop of ca glue on bottom to hold in place. The flowers do shed with gameplay if you don't hit the basing material with watered down pva, or something similar. But again, that's nothing new to basing materials.

I definitely like the look of them for the right environment

Some progress on EotG/Steg/Steg w/Skink Chief

Fast coming upon the question "magnets or pins?" I am a big fan of magnets, but I don't really want a sooth circle in the middle of all of the relief carvings on the hodah. I am tempted to go the pins route and hide the holes in the gaps.

Easy together.

Easy apart.

I ended up picking up a pack each of 3 different plants. I'll post pictures and let you know once I have gotten further along with my basing slog! I just need to sculpt a bunch of fallen logs, either digitally or in green stuff, first.

It really depends on how you plan to secure skink chief later. You can magnet his foot (and cover that smooth circle), but in this case, I would drill a hole and have pin in his leg as well as in throne.
