8th Ed. Beginning Lizardmen Army

I found out about warhammer from one of my friends. Me and him then saved up and bought the skull pass set. The dwarves they were just not strong enough. I looked through the rule book looking for a new army. Then I see walking lizards. This instantly catches my eye. I plan on buying a battalion but what should I add to beat a orcs and goblin army because that is what i will normally be facing. Me and my friend play around 1,500 points or more. He likes to use his finatics which can pound my forces. I will probably have 1 Slann and 1 Skink priest. Please provide me with help.

- At what point are you going to play; 500, 1000, 1500 or more?

- What do YOU want to field?

If you're going into the situation thinking "how do I beat x army" or "is y army good" you're looking at it from the wrong point of view.

It's a hobby that at the end of the day demands an enormous amount of time. If you find an army you enjoy the lore and aesthetic of everything else tends to fall into place.

That said lizardmen have always been my only army. I love everything about them. I couldnt imagine playing another army, even though I tend to get stomped on the battle field. I still enjoy myself because I enjoy the army itself.

Dwarves are strong in a very different way (I find dwarves to be very difficult to fight using lizardmen).

Remember key aspects of lizardmen:
-Great leadership (this is my favorite rules part of the army)
-Strong core (saurus)
-Great skirmishers (skinks)
-Lots of monsters (Fun to build, paint, and play)
-Strong magic (Slann), however as you will hear, magic is fickle, just because you spend 500 points on a caster with a million tricks, bad magic rolls will ruin you.
-Offensive army (You typically will do most of the marching against opponents like O&G

-Low initiative for core (saurus)
-No war machines (with the exception of the war machines mounted on dinosaurs, which is not as useful as it sounds)
-High point cost (not the highest, but you are fielding a lot less models then O&G, unless of course you go with a lot of skinks).

Play around with what you get it the battalion box, my guess is you will want another 10 TG pretty quickly, a monster (bastilladon may be the best choice?), and more skinks.

I'd add in a salamander or two pretty sharpish, they'll make a serious mess of any goblin hordes and will make any of his larger orc blocks want to avoid them.

I'd also be inclined to get some rippers to hunt war machines as I have a more than healthy respect for the greenskins' machines based on past experience.
