Derechin said:Hi guys!
I'm new: both to this forum and to Warhammer in general. Since I'm writing here, you can safely presume that I've chosen Lizardmen as my firsy army.
I've got problems with VC. They're run by a guy who showed my WFB, so he knows a lot more about rules than I do. He ususally uses an infantry-heavy army with several heroes for casting lots of Invocations of Nehek. Here's a list of problems I've encountered:
1) Zombies. Might seem funny, but being buffed by both Corpse Carts and Mortis Engines (also mentioned below) they are almost equal to my Sauruses. Any hints, apart form using Salamanders (which I haven't done yet)?
2) Corpse Carts and Mortis Engines. I've no idea how to deal with them.
3) When my Sauruses finally get through his zombies, they numbers render them almost helpless against Grave Guard.
4) Big, tough heroes like Mannfred. I've seen a topic somewhere around the forum but failed to see any conclusions apart form "stay away, do not engage".
5) How do you "dominate the magic phase"? By simply dispelling the right spells? I'd like to point out the fact that dispelling every single Invocation of Nehek might be a bit tricky since at least one of them is cast by his lord near a Mortis Engine and that means +6 to his result.
Any tips related to killing Vampires are welcome.
My local VC don’t use Corpse Carts and Mortis Engines a lot so this is Theoryhammer. Corpses Carts and Mortis Engine means lots of things with Regeneration saves. Try a Lore of Fire Slann with the extra power die and lore mastery. Take a Skink priest to caddy a Cube of Darkness and also to help you aim magic missiles at places the Slann can’t get to. I’m also guessing they are light on ethereal troops (though Flaming Sword of Ruin will help you if you see those).
If you find yourself with a lot of power dice in the first round or two you can try to zap the Mortis Engine early. (They explode when they die so you should try to get them to explode when your troops are far away). If you aren’t into high stakes gambling, throw your fire spells at the Corpse Carts to debuff the zombies. I’d recommend taking Temple Guard to get maximum utility out of the Cascading Fire Cloak (a Temple Guard makes Burning Head impractical but that’s probably the weakest Fire spell anyway). Save the Flame Cage for the Grave Guard and other large units of nasties.
I’d back your Saurus blocks up with flanking blocks of Skroxigor, Kroxigor, Cold One Riders, and/or Stegadons (especially Stegadons). If you can fight the zombies 2:1 the CR will really stack in your favor.
I wish I knew how to handle blender vampire lords. If you find out let me know.
