Very quick question (and apologies if its been covered before but short of time to search site!) do multiple bastilodons stack their bonus to initiative? Rule says "all friendly units with the cold blooded special rule that are within 6" of one or more bastilodons with a solar engine gain +1 initiative"
Because of the "one or more" bit I'd say not, but would love to be wrong!
 
Sadly they don't stack. :(
 
I just don't see the reason why not. If people want to spend 300pts to gain +2 initiative I don't see that's overpowered. Would've only made our guards hit at I4 ._.

@Pinktako however, I do agree with you!

Looks like its magic weapons for characters and Lore of Light for the Slann to improve initiative.

Playing VC tonight - I'll let you know how I get on in a different thread within Battle Reports. Have played him beofre and we ended up at almost the perfect draw!

While it may not have been overpowered, the rule is pretty well written and clear. It's not really a good idea to judge even fuzzy rules based on how powerful they are, let alone ones that are clear.

Lizardmen aren't allowed nice things.
 
I supose you could have got like 4 of them (they aren't that many points),
ans flanked you saurus/temple guard horde with them for IN 5/6...
maybe that why they restricted it to only+1..?

Not that I think it's an anti- lizzy thing. I just think different book authors have different philosophies, and ours writes on the fun-but-low-power end of things.


I mean, just compare something as simple as magic banner access between Lizardmen and Dark Elves for an example.
 
Hey, the bast is overall a good monster and the steg got even better. It's not like we're conepletly overlooked xD
 
and yet lizardmen still can be an extremely powerful and competitive army.


most armies have it a lot worse. the book was dull but /shrug. doesnt make us any less powerful.

I agree, it's not a lizardmen thing. It says if you're withing 6" of a basty, you get +1 initiative. pretty good for 150 points if you ask me. It's the same as HE frost phoenix - if you're in base contact with a frosty, you get ASL and -1 strength, and they don't stack either.
Nothing malicious here, I think it's pretty well explained in the book and is quite fair.
If we're going into rules being taken out of context, let's not reopen the Kroak/EotG spell topic - that's one that pains my soul!

I dont see why they didnt give us acces to stacking those...seems to me as a fair deal, a needed option and not overpowered at all.

afterall it is rarely overpowered when you are paying extra to be (still less than) as good as others.....okay its a monster! but what isnt theses days!? :D

Not to derail the conversation, but do you have a reference for that? Last I read (granted it has been a while) on Ulthuan the -1S did stack due to the way the rule was worded.
 
Actually, it's because of how it's worded that it doesn't stack. English is a tricky b*$ch, but it does have rules, and in this case, if you apply them, English tells us that they don't stack.
 
but since this is an international game, translations of that rule, or possibly even the bastilodon's rule might mean in some countries they do stack or don't.
 
True. Boy, if only there were some sort of mechanism by which a company that produces and sells a product that is made up of rules could support said product to "repair" its defects...

Hmm...how could that be done? How? Dammit, it's right there in front of me but I can't figure it out!

If the Solar Engine gave a buff on the same level as the Frost Phoenix (opponents within 6" half their Initiative, or Lizardmen double theirs, or -1 to hit, or +1 to hit, or something like any of the other buff wagons that actually buff an otherwise significant weakness, rather than barely mitigate a marginal one) then I could understand why it couldn't stack.
 
I'm happy with it not stacking. In order to read it in such a way that it stacks is to break the original intent of the rule.
That goes for both frosty and basty. Id feel cheesy trying to take the rule out of it's written intent, I'd feel almost as cheesy as WoC army book :p
(anyone that knows me, knows how I feel about chaos...haha)
 
I don't think anyone is honestly questioning whether or not it stacks, more like why it doesn't stack because.. +1I on the slow as snail saurus is almost useless, although it makes up for better defence against initiative spells.

One thing though - is it really that needed? I mean stack initiative email would be awesome and would make it much more appealing, but if we look at the current rules does anybody actuslly take the bast for the buff and not the bound spell and extra stomp/terror/fear?
 
It makes our skinks I5, and our saurus heroes I4. I don't mind that. :)
