Awesome bands/songs EVERYONE should know about.

A music thread? Joy! Okay so my music tastes are pretty varied, and what I tend to listen to depends on what my mood is or what I'm doing at any time. If I'm trying to wind down in the evenings I'll generally go for some form of Jazz, if I need a lift but not too much of a lift, then it's classical. However, my absolute favouritest thing out there has got to be metal, and whilst I'm always open to new things I have a real soft spot for power/symphonic/melodic stuff. Here is one of the best songs from my favourite band:

Avantasia is amazing!

BTW, if you're into power symphonic metal side-projects, should i take for granted that you already know Demon & Wizards?

I just found the band Angelspit and that’s all I’ve been listening too for a few weeks now lol. I can’t give music recommendations without mentioning the goat Lana del Rey tho, just don’t see her live that was kind of a disappointment. Also I realize those two suggestions are almost polar opposites but I only have two moods: angery and lesbian.

I cannot stop watching Postmodern Jukebox make Jazzy, Duwap, and big band vintage remakes of modern pop songs.

I really like the music and aesthetics of the 1920s and 30s, and to a lesser extant the 40s, 50s, and 60s. I am nostalgic for times long before I was born.

For parts of the past. I realize that not everything in the past decades was peaches and cream.

In the 1920s there was an unprecedented world wide pandemic. In the 1930s there was rampant unemployment and the rise of authoritarian leaders around the world. All these decades had civil unrest due to systemic racism.

All these decades had generational divides as sexual norms changed at an unprecedented pace.

In the 1950s and 1960s, the free world was in a Cold War with a belligerent hostile communist nation that didn't play by the rules or care about basic ethics and armed with nuclear weapons.

Also, radio was a new medium in the 1920s and television was a new medium in the 1950s. Society was coping with upheaval from rapid advancements in technological media but unfortunately it led to a small number of media companies dominating the news people heard.

But we live in better times now and all of these problems have been solved long ago...

EDIT: I'm not a big fan of the Friends show, but this video showcases the awesomeness of Postmodern Jukebox's range and stylistic flair.

^ I really like these two tracks from this indie pop band, especially the latter.

This really nice band does violin and instrumental string covers on mainstream/popular songs.

Time for some TOOL. A band everyone should know and listen at least once.

well.
@Rednax @spawning of Bob
They Might Be Giants is best band.
here are a few of my favourites of theirs:
Istanbul not Constantinople (trumpet version), Birdhouse in Your Soul, Lake Monsters, You're on Fire, Spiralling Shape, Mink Car, Dr Worm, XTC vs Adam Ant (live version), S-E-X-X-Y, Hovering Sombrero
Sort of alt-rock alt-pop i guess

If you're into it, I would definitely recommend The Oh Hellos. A folk sort of duo, but definitely one of my all time favourites.

Gotye (known for 'somebody that I used to know') is also one of my favourites.

I think They Might Be Giants would sort of be entertaining for people here, so :headphone::angelic:

I really like unique covers that change the tone and style of the original in innovative. I have become fond of First to Eleven. Just today they released a take on 1985 originally from Bowling for Soup that I have listened to on repeat many times.

Probably my top 3 albums, though I discover new music all the time!

Here is something that, I'd say, is quite different in style to the other pieces I've posted:
