Scenery Army on Parade Board Build Blog

Sounds like it's time for some crude MS-paint sketches of your board layout... ;)

I'm hopeless at anything like that but I am starting to sketch stuff but that is also very poor.

You might consider cardboard templates. Pieces cut to the exact size of the unit trays or bases of your principle units.

Unless that no longer applies due to AoS?

Did some digging last night and most pyramid stones are around 5ft in height and depth that would work out to around 22mm, but that would not allow a Saurus warrior to stand on a tier due to base size so I may have to increase the depth of the steps to say 40mm to allow models to stand single breast.

So if I build 1/2 a temple it would have around 10 tiers and stand around 400mm high, this would take up 90% of the board but if I made a 200mm ground piece and sat the pyramid on top it would stand at 600mm (2ft) the 200mm ground piece would allow me to construct the engine bay so it sits under ground.

So the inside of the temple would be a smooth pyramid.

Does that sound doable?

Edit: showing 1/2 a pyramid only gives me 200mm for the sides as it is 1/2 the length so it would only be 5 tiers high, going to have to make a cardboard template and work backwards.

Edit2: Using a 200mm base would allow me to build an underground headquarters as well, this would stop the block being a boring solid piece and give more scope for extra detailing.

Edit3: If I build the temple like in @n810 first picture I may have more internal space to play around with and it will give more free space on the board for scenery aspects.

You could also do less regular steps...
say 2-3 small steep steps, and then a 40mm platform. :artist:

Yeah that's why I'm leaning towards the design in the first picture you posted, I've got some 20mm cardboard boxes coming so once I get them will make a temple and see how it looks, I will then start looking into materials for the inside and the head quarters which is going to be manned with skinks.

I can see it in my head but getting it out is not easy!

So got my boxes and did some quick layouts, I think the third one will work best as it gives me a good internal space for the ship internals.

If the ship is landed Leds could work but I thought about doing the temple facia and then having it cut in half so when you look at the back it's all high tech with a slann in a chair etc etc that way it just looks like a temple from the front but when you see the back you get the effect.
This is pretty much what I was going to suggest! I lkke the idea of putting hinges on it so you can display the inside, like the castle Greyskull from our youths! Also if done right can service as an exquisite carrying case! Haha!

Trust you to come up with that, were you been missed your posts :D

Is number three pure vertical on the back face?

If it was, a piano hinge back there might be your friend.

Yep the idea is to have it vertical at the back but if I want a panel that can be removed it will mean the panel would be flat and not stepped but I could do that, if I slot the base it would push in and I could use magnets to hold it in place.

Ok so I settled on design 3 and pondered how I would construct the ship internal, I settled on blue acrylic sheet which will be lit with leds.

I set about cutting and sticking the basic shape of the temple/ship and this is how far along I am at the moment.

Next step cut out the rear.
