We are a little late to start the April-May 2025 Contest but I extended the submission deadline a fair bit.

Theme is "Slann", appropriately open to many interpretations

The Rules
-We would like you to try to keep your story between 500 and 2000 words. I am requiring that entries do not exceed 2400 words. This is counting title, poems, quotes, any add-ons. If I get a submission that exceeds 2400 words, I will trim it till it meets the limit, and you may not like what words I choose to cut. Even prepositions are not safe...

-Your name must appear nowhere with the story. There is no point in having an anonymous competition based on skill if we know whose entry is whose.

-You must send your story via private message to Scalenex before midnight O' one (12:01 AM, US Central time) on May 14th 2025
-The story must be new. No dragging up a story you wrote months or years ago.
-No plagiarism. This means no stealing a story verbatim. You are free to use characters or settings from other works including other writer's fluff pieces and past short story contest entries.
-It bothers me that I have to say this but it's current year, but no AI writing.
-The story must involve Lizardmen (or Seraphon or Salamanders or Saurian Ancients or Rangos), at least a little.
-The story must stick roughly within the theme, at least a little.
-No comics or illustrations. This is a short story contest. Visuals are limited to fonts and text colors.
-Only one entry allowed per person.

Once again, the winner of this contest has the honor of choosing the next contest theme if they so choose.

If you want to talk about the theme or your eagerness to write or read something. Please do so below!

Let the writing commence :writing:

Grrr, !mrahil

As usual, maybe i will manage to write something near the deadline :p

Hmm... Slann eh? This will take some contemplation, as the big frog boys aren't my usual choice for writing anything lizard related.

Hmmmmm.... What do do? What to do?

I am in a similar situation. I have been mostly slann-free for most of my writing. A challenge indeed!

Yah, Slann for me are at their best as background figures, the ones mentioned but not focused upon.

But I have an idea... I HAVE A PLAN!

I wrote 28 stories for LO.
Only one of them included a Slann as main protagonist. Yep, it's not simple.

Hmm, this thread hasn't been pinned. Made me wonder for a moment if there had been a contest cancellation before I did the sensible thing and scrolled down and noticed the topic right there, mingling with the unpinned plebes.

By the way... my auto-vote goes to anyone whose entry is somehow tied to the Salamanders of Kings of War, especially since the theme would make that one heck of an impressive feat. XD

Speaking of the theme... which of you two decided on "Slann" as the theme? So I know who to curse and shake my fist at in impotent rage. :-P Fortunately, as my previous post has stated, I have a plan! A... GREAT plan, if you will. You shall laugh. You shall cry. You shall call me a bloody genius.

Is anybody getting along with writing their contest entry?
I am on the way, but hope to get the arch of my story within the word boundary

Who would have guessed making the prompt be based on characters whose defining traits include napping for centuries at a time and floating around on a lazy boy would be difficult to get ideas for? :-P

Now if the prompt had been "Skink", there would be many ideas floating around, because who doesn't love the adorable little scaly bois?

Honestly, I'm struggling for ideas with this one.
Yep, me too :p

sometime we need to face difficult challenges ;)
