The theme for our 34th seasonal short story contest is upon us. It is appropriate that this contest theme relates to the 34th Ferengi Rule of Acquisition.

The Contest Theme brought to us by is Killer Angel is "War and Peace". I hope it will be good for business.

The Rules
-We would like you to try to keep your story between 500 and 2000 words. I am requiring that entries do not exceed 2400 words. This is counting title, poems, quotes, any add-ons. If I get a submission that exceeds 2400 words, I will trim it till it meets the limit, and you may not like what words I choose to cut. Even prepositions are not safe...

-Your name must appear nowhere with the story. There is no point in having an anonymous competition based on skill if we know whose entry is whose.

-You must send your story via private message to Scalenex before midnight (US Central time) on May 10th 2023
-The story must be new. No dragging up a story you wrote months or years ago.
-No plagiarism. This means no stealing a story verbatim. You are free to use characters or settings from other works including other writer's fluff pieces and past short story contest entries.
-The story must involve Lizardmen (or Seraphon or Salamanders or Saurian Ancients or Rangos), at least a little.
-The story must stick roughly within the theme, at least a little.
-No comics or illustrations. This is a short story contest. Visuals are limited to fonts and text colors.
-Only one entry allowed per person.

Once again, the winner of this contest has the honor of choosing the next contest theme if they so choose.

If you want to talk about the theme or your eagerness to write or read something. Please do so below!

Interesting theme with a lot of possibilities.:writing:

Do both War and Peace have to be featured in the story or does one suffice?

Grrr, !mrahil

Well, ideally you would be required to explore the duality of the theme, but it's up to you how to entertain us ;)

It seems the theme is inspirational to some of us.
Good. :D

If only to get it out of my system:

The candles flickered in the occult library where the Magus had made his stand against the two Seraphon. The walls were lined with books; some iron bound others with a disturbing skin-like quality to them.

Tox stood over the crumpled form of the Tzeentchian sorcerer and let the weighty tome fall to the ground as the adrenaline wore off. Qu'ortz the Skink Priest stooped to pick up the fallen tome that the Oldblood had used to cave in the sorcerer’s skull.

“Tool...Tol...Tolstie...Tol...stoy?”

Tox shrugged.

“You are right, Brother...does not matter.” The Skink’s tail flicked as he threw the tome aside, knocking over several candlesticks whose flame began to tear at the abundant vellum.

The two turned and left the fire to spread and consume the madman’s library.

War had been averted...but peace was still a distant dream...

Now to try and think of something completely different... :P

Very poetic last line

I intend to write a piece, but have not had the time to sit down and work at it...
It would be undeserving to the theme to not have at least one story

The sad thing is that i have (more or less) the story, but i don't have the time to write it down. :(
I hope to write something in the next 10 days, at most asking for a delay...

Damn! If there was no minimum word count, I'd have entered a one sentence story and taken the win as the only entry. That feels like a NIGHTBRINGER thing to do! :D

I doubt we'll have zero. Historically most entries come in the last week of the contest.

That said, I've never gone 18 days and not had one entry.

Normally at this point, the total count ends up being roughly triple whatever it is now.

I have extended the deadline using a mighty zero changing May 1st to May 10th
