As GeeDubs have confirmed AoS 3.0 is on the way, and as I put up a thread aeons ago to talk about Second Edition when it was on the horizon:
https://www.lustria-online.com/threads/aos-second-edition.21267/

I have done the same for it’s successor (I’ve put it in the general chat thread once again so we can talk about armies other than Lizardmen as well here).

So then, I put it to you - what are your hopes and dreams for AoS Third Edition? What rules would you like to see added/removed/reworked, and what sorts of updates would you like to see for your favourite armies?

I’ll start off with myself - though I still haven’t got into AoS much yet, I’m still rooting for Fyreslayers at the sidelines. I don’t want them merged into a combi-book with Kharadron as some rumourmongers over on EEFL have been saying because that’s just lazy, especially given that GW have given Elves three separate factions with another definitely in the pipeline. I can certainly think of some cool new unit ideas for Fyreslayers, so if I can, GW with their top-of-the-range lorewriters and games designers certainly should be able to as well. And sod the guff about Fyreslayers supposedly being the least popular army being a reason not to do so, because if GW doesn’t give them anything that trend is only going to get worse, as per Bretonnia in the Fantasy days, whereas if dumbass Slaanesh can get two releases in one edition, it’s worth giving Fyreslayers some new models to increase the variety in the hope that the army will become popular again.

Also I’m interested to see if GW will give Beastmen and Skaven any attention with some plastic versions of existing Finecast models in this Edition. If stupid Vampire Counts can be given all those updated plastics (some of which were grossly unnecessary), Beastmen and Skaven deserve to have some too.

And I’d like to see Saurus become the meta for Lizardmen too, the biggest reason I have avoided playing AoS Lizardmen like the plague is because of the cowardly Skink-spam tactic being made the most viable option. Saurus are by far the best part of the Lizardman army and deserve to be at the forefront with profiles to match.

With regards to rules, I’ll be interested to see if GW will be adding some measures from 9th Edition 40K into the mix, because if 3rd Edition AoS follows that then melee armies might get more of a shout. Perhaps they’ll finally get rid of the silly rule that allows missile units to shoot even when they’re in close combat (except for small quick-to-fire weapons like throwing weapons, Pistols e.t.c.)? Also I’m interested to see how they’re going to make monsters more powerful - perhaps they’re going to introduce something like Thunderstomp from Fantasy to give them some extra hitting power? And a personal request is that I want to see some advantage to attacking in the flank or rear appear, because currently there is pretty much no difference to attacking in the rear compared to attacking in the front.

The funny (?) thing was that i was going to try a thunderquake list, and now of course i will wait the new edition, to exploit its full potential...

I have no big hopes. Only that the game is at least somewhat 'water-tight' as they so famously touted when announcing it.

And for monsters to be good, though that's been somewhat alleviated by the showing of their charge phase special rules.

An additional thought. Totems can do Command Abilities.

The Dread Saurian is a totem no?

Dont be too enthusiastic about monster list. We'll probably see a point increase in every unit as soon as 3.0 comes out or next month, as usual per GHB. Yeah, they'll be handy, but it's like now, that I have to re-make any list Kroak was present, which is almost every one.

Maybe, Carno goes up a 30 points as well as Chief and now you need this Skink screen instead of both of them.

I'm curious how Stomp will interact with Stegadon's ability (as well as many other monsters) and how generic Alliance CA, like the one from KC, can be used by Leaders.

Do you guys think that Parting Shot will be FaQed if we come back to charge reactions like Fantasy had? I mean, PS is 2x1, shoot and retreat, which could be 2 CP.

I’m interested to see that the new Heroic Actions and Monstrous Rampage abilities are more rip-offs from Middle Earth than anything in 40K, I never thought I’d see that happen. I wonder if anything else is being borrowed from Middle Earth?

yeah, that's for sure. And many increases will have absolutely no sense.

I mean, even at 240 a scar vet carnosaur is an absolute steal.

This is honestly a great change. Totems are kinda boring in most armies right now. Hell, not even all armies have totem artifacts. Giving them some relevance would be great.

Mwha, heroic actions in the LOTR game are quite different. They interupt the flow of the game. So far they just share the name.

It is similar though to some of the reactive stuff lotr has, like units choosing to shield (focus on defense) in a fight.

Not the worst system to take inspiration from.

I don't expect it from the core rulebook, and honestly not at all, but I would like to see Regiments of Renown.
Now that battalions seem to be going away, at least partially, I think they could be an interesting replacement and they would be easier to balance than battalions.

Now that you bring it up, Blessed Spawnings could make for fun RoR for us.

What makes you say Battalions are going? Because all the boxsets for Broken Realms contain units for specific battalions

What Erta Wanderer said:

It's a Rumer that every one is taking far to seriously. Shure it's a possibility but we have no evidence one way or the other at the moment

Still, even if Battalions are not removed, I'd like to see some RoR, and especially if they, for us, are based on Blessed Spawnings, as Carnikang brought up.
