As GeeDubs have confirmed AoS 3.0 is on the way, and as I put up a thread aeons ago to talk about Second Edition when it was on the horizon:
https://www.lustria-online.com/threads/aos-second-edition.21267/
I have done the same for it’s successor (I’ve put it in the general chat thread once again so we can talk about armies other than Lizardmen as well here).
So then, I put it to you - what are your hopes and dreams for AoS Third Edition? What rules would you like to see added/removed/reworked, and what sorts of updates would you like to see for your favourite armies?
I’ll start off with myself - though I still haven’t got into AoS much yet, I’m still rooting for Fyreslayers at the sidelines. I don’t want them merged into a combi-book with Kharadron as some rumourmongers over on EEFL have been saying because that’s just lazy, especially given that GW have given Elves three separate factions with another definitely in the pipeline. I can certainly think of some cool new unit ideas for Fyreslayers, so if I can, GW with their top-of-the-range lorewriters and games designers certainly should be able to as well. And sod the guff about Fyreslayers supposedly being the least popular army being a reason not to do so, because if GW doesn’t give them anything that trend is only going to get worse, as per Bretonnia in the Fantasy days, whereas if dumbass Slaanesh can get two releases in one edition, it’s worth giving Fyreslayers some new models to increase the variety in the hope that the army will become popular again.
Also I’m interested to see if GW will give Beastmen and Skaven any attention with some plastic versions of existing Finecast models in this Edition. If stupid Vampire Counts can be given all those updated plastics (some of which were grossly unnecessary), Beastmen and Skaven deserve to have some too.
And I’d like to see Saurus become the meta for Lizardmen too, the biggest reason I have avoided playing AoS Lizardmen like the plague is because of the cowardly Skink-spam tactic being made the most viable option. Saurus are by far the best part of the Lizardman army and deserve to be at the forefront with profiles to match.
With regards to rules, I’ll be interested to see if GW will be adding some measures from 9th Edition 40K into the mix, because if 3rd Edition AoS follows that then melee armies might get more of a shout. Perhaps they’ll finally get rid of the silly rule that allows missile units to shoot even when they’re in close combat (except for small quick-to-fire weapons like throwing weapons, Pistols e.t.c.)? Also I’m interested to see how they’re going to make monsters more powerful - perhaps they’re going to introduce something like Thunderstomp from Fantasy to give them some extra hitting power? And a personal request is that I want to see some advantage to attacking in the flank or rear appear, because currently there is pretty much no difference to attacking in the rear compared to attacking in the front.
