Discontinued models or discontinued armies, the main thing is to seel new models 'til the market is filled with them and the number of sold models decreased in a significant way, then blast 'em and move on.

Yup. Most models stayed useable. Some special characters might be demoted to regular lord/heroes, but still playabe. I suppose Dogs of War was an exception to the rule, and Chaos Dwarfs for a period of time. But mainline armies stuck around.
