8th Ed. Another 1000 point army list

Hi guys - I know I posted a list recently - but I have a few games lined up on Sunday against one of my buddies (who doesn't mind me proxying some models). I'll be playing against dwarves and dark elves...

How does this look? I don't have any other models that these listed, but magic items and stuff can be swapped or changed if appropiate...

Saurus Old Blood (general) - light armour, dragonhelm, additional hand weapon, ruby ring of ruin
Skink Priest - level 2 mage, power stone, ironcurse icon, lore of heavens
12 Skink skirmishers with javelins and champion
18 Saurus warriors with spears and full command
20 Temple guard with full command, war banner and sword of battle on champion

Come to 999 points

I have no idea what elves he will be fielding, as for dwarves it will be a fairly standard looking gunline, but at 1000 points there shouldn't be toooo many war machines. I'll be taking heavens signiture spell (iceshard) and hoping for comet or curse of the midnight... The plan will be to hex his shooting units so badly that he misses most shots while my lizards slither their way up the battlefield to meet him in combat.

I have no idea about dark elf tactics since he is a master elf player and always mixes his lists up a LOT!

I'd ditch the champ in the skirmisher for sure... Wasted points. The war banner is also really pricey for just +1 combat res. I'd look for the +1 movement especially against the dwarves since they will likely have war machines and you'll need to close the gap fast. Also I'd go for a shield and ASF sword on the OB to get him to a 1+ and to negate some elf shenanigans. He'll also decimate dwarves, but you'll lose out on the ruby ring. I generally don't run campions in small games; so if you save those points, shrink to ten skirmishers and ditch a few items I think you could squeak out another unit of skirmishers or chameleons which are really fun in small games since they usually have good deployments and can distract a war machine or disrupt opponent plans. Also give the OB the icon; the safest place for the priest is in the skirmishers to minimize miscast effects. Best of luck. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the comments. My friend I'm playing against has a razordon model I can use, so I've dropped the war banner to a banner of swiftness, got rid of the power stone, champion on the skink unit and magic weapon in the temple guard and have squeezed in a razordon into the list (with an extra handler). Will be interesting to see how it performs......
