8th Ed. All skinks list - Edited - 6 Chiefs - 2 Oldblood's.

I know this isn't all Skinks, since i use Cowboys, but i wanted to be semi competetive.

The plan is to deploy the skink schiefs in the skink hordes and flank the units with cowboys and/or Stegadons + rippers.

I'm afraid of lacking punch and i haven't done the full math so it may go slightly above, or below (i am defo doubting hero max).

Saurus Oldblood w/ Dawnstone, -1 to hit LA. GW, talisman of preservation on CoC.

Hero

Skink priest lvl 2 + dispel scroll. (beasts)

Skink priest lvl 1 + cube. (beasts)

Skink priest lvl 1. (beasts).

Skink Chief w/ La, Shield, Egg

Skink Chief BSB w/ la, shield.

Skink Chief w/ la, Shield.

Scar vet on Cold one w/ Armor of destiny w/ GW

(haven't done the math, think it fits?)

Core

2 x 40 Skink cohorts w/ poison and FC.

3 x 10 Skink Skirmishers jav and shields.

Special:

2 x 3 Rippers.

1 x 3 Terra. (not enuff rippers, so a unit of terra's for nuisance.)

2x 6 Chamo's

Rare:

Ancient steggie w/ sharpened.


This is rough math from what i remember (no book near), but i think it's 2500 ish points - mebbeh the BSB should go with the mountd CoC though.

Anyways, i'd love to try this

I can't afford the heroes - what to do? i could shave off the egg, or a single chief, but i really want to test a buttload of chiefs.

I would just drop the skink chief with no magic items; It doesn't seem to have much
If you don't want to drop it, just drop the light armor off and you're fine.

You have 47 points left to play with as well.

Your Oldblood is illegal: Dawnstone and Talisman are same category.

Why not take another lvl2 instead of 2 lvl1? Frees up some points.
And if your going chiefs I'd go all the way and take 4 or 5!
Since you obviously want to buff the hell out of em with Savage Beast of Horrors, the more the better.
You could take 2 Oldbloods instead of a Scarvet to give you more points for your chiefs.
I would definately keep the Egg and maybe give your BSB some better protection (Armor of destiny).

Problem with dual Oldie is that i'll have a hard time finding the points.

The reason i want a lvl 2 priest is for better magic defense, and a chance at the curse of anraheir, or a str/attack buff for my buttload of heroes, or a ballista... let's just say i think there's an incentive

The reason i wanted more lvl 1's were to pump out more Wildform's - but i can see that it would be a good place to save points

I can't afford more chiefs without freeing the scar vet and making him a lord, but maybe that IS the way to go, i think i can survive without the Terradon's.

and with the 45 points from the Talisman i think i'm there allready!

and with the 47 points asamu mentioned!


I'm going to go do the math, and present a list later!

This is defo something i HAVE to try !

I think that goes to 2499. - The javelins was all i could come up with for those extra 6 points.

I followed the advice on a lvl 2, and a more tooled up BSB - put talisman on my second oldie instead, with LA it is almost the same.

Still feel i might end up lacking punch, but i still think it could be hella fun!


- Removed 6 skinks from the cohorts to add a CoC to one Oldblood and added an enchanted shield to one skink and an ingot to another.

I could combine them on one oldblood, but it wouldn't help the soddy skink BSB's save much since he can't use 2 magic items, so i think i'll keep it like this. Besides the defense from dawnstone + Glittering is much similar and cheaper.

I can't afford a crown atm, but i could scrap a Skirmisher unit for more magic items on the oldies...

No tetto'oko, i don't have the model and i don't intend to use a special character since there's so much differing in opinions around here (acceptance limited).

No krox - the punch would be nice but they just don't do what the oldblood's do.

And even though i know you're mostly humoring me i won't drop the oldblood's either, i need the ld 8 and i need the tying power to get daemon princes and the likes out of my Skinks faces.

Appreciate the feedback though ^^ it's just i want to stay competitive and still not step on my local meta by adding a SC - besides adding tett'oko costs me a chief or 2, maybe even a priest, and i don't want that.

I would consider dropping the armour of destiny from the BSB and putting it on one of the Old Bloods. Play the BSB like a wizard and have outside of the unit so that he doesn't get caught up in combat. Maybe give him a one time 4++ ward if you want some protection. The punch in this army will come from the two Old Bloods, and you should focus your points on them. I really feel that you will find this to be a much better use of a 50 pts set of armour (2 wounds on the skink with still a low armour save is kind of a waste of points IMO). Set the Old Bloods up as:

Old Blood, GW, CO, Glittering Scales, Talisman of Preservation
Old Blood, GW, CO, Armour of Destiny, Dawnstone

I'd stock a kroxigor or two in those cohorts. If they attack the kroxigor you chiefs are safe to whack away. And if they go for chiefs you get some much needed heavy str attacks.

but it's 22 points for each time i want to fill in a Kroxigor - with poison, and numbers on their side i think they can do some damage on their own.

And i do agree on needing high strength attacks - but getting to them, in being able to afford it, i'd need to scrap a chief per 2 Kroxigor i want (and 4 skinks in the blocks).

I'm currently thinking that the Oldlbood's should be able to tie up anything too dangerous while the rest of the list tries to kill stuff.

I will defo consider finding points for Kroxigor after the first few playing of the list to see if it works better

I see your point, but i am a bit confused by the way you're phrasing it.

If the punch comes from my OB's why would i play one of them like a wizard? i'm assuming you mean if i intend to stay with a skink BSB - which is something i have to if i want one, since OB's can't be the BSB.

Playing him like a wizard instead would do some things sure - but i think the defensive value of the units as is still quite good. He will be surrounded by allies for a look out sir, and a 3+/4+ is still a very decent save. I can always move him out and into something else if things get dangerous where he's at.

The addition of a dawnstone on the armor of destiny feels like going very much defense in points, when the Armor of destiny alone grants enough staying power to hold out for ages alone - yes the reroll is awesome, but i feel it goes to good use on the other target as well.

I might have to go and find the points somewhere, but i'm not sure i have them.

The amount of skink chiefs stays the same! but... with a skirmisher unit scraped off... that's 35 more points per OB, that would make it work.

But do i want to go without the CoC? You're the more experienced user of OB's between us two, so i reckon you're the right guy to ask

EDIT: i already bought all of the stuffs, it'll save me 35 points without the COC even :O no skirmirshers scraped, i can alwas scrap the CoC and go with an armor of fortune on my Skink BSB.

Another edit: Greatly considering BSB on terradon atm, with the points from the armor saved, i can afford it, and it would give a lot of flexibility, so the CoC would go to a Terradon for him. Which also makes it easier to run him wizardy, and avoid danger!

CHanged the magic items to correspond with kroak's suggestion, gave the BSB a terradon.

Feel more confident about it now.
