9th Age 9th Age (beta) out now - check link in first post

Baby steg is gone... so only steg in rare section.... djeez :(

Yeah this is somewhat odd, but I can live without it. Stats and equipment have been buffed. They did, however, say that some time ago that they'd make some units more "simple"/streamlined. The arcane wagons from The Empire are also just one unit with 2 upgrades now.

HKB is killing blow with (X) multiple wounds. Why they haven't specified that is odd.

They have minor slip ups like that throughout the document. For instance on page 66 under the special rules for Universal Knowledge they state "Cannot be combined with Focus of Mystery". This is extremely strange for a couple of reasons...
  1. There is no more Focus of Mystery, they have renamed it "Master of Mystery"
  2. Since you can only purchase a single Frog Discipline per Slann, that restriction is completely redundant
It's simply the case that they have made changes and forgot to make updates throughout their document.

it's likely a case of them finishing up 3 different document within 3 days. I think they have a busy time incoming :p

Oh.. Black Guards got a very nice buff. 13pts, S4, AP and halbard, so S5 AP.Oh and they have the bodyguard special rule (were they previously stubborn?). Executioners have both multiple wound (2) and killing blow.

Swordmasters got parry (-1 to be hit) and 13pts as well. That's lovely.

I'm happy to see all 3 changes because that'll add some flavour to those armies for sure.

Yeah this is somewhat odd, but I can live without it. Stats and equipment have been nerfed.

How is the Steggy nerfed? Compared to the Ancient Stegadon, the new Triceratops....
  • +1 leadership
  • +1 initiative (although under 8th edition rules, the steggy got to use the initiative 4 of the skink crew)
  • +1 attack
  • 40pts reduction
  • lost terror?

Sorry, I meant buffed. No idea why I said nerfed?! I'm well aware that it's overall more powerful. I'm very happy what we can do with it:D

Now that makes sense, you had me confused there for a moment.

I only read PinkTaco's breakdown. But what they have done is overall disappointing. I would prefer to use the 8th book over this one.
How do they justify this change to the Slann without even buffing the Skink Priest? I mean, have they played Lizardmen? Do they understand what it is Lizardmen are supposed to do? Like, how the army plays as a whole. They completely missed the mark, the feel of the army, the fun. The army is missing one of it's biggest selling points. It's incomplete.

What's the reasoning behind removing the smaller steg? Was it supposed to be replaced by the bastiladon? Than at least give the bastiladon stubborn since he not only needs it to fill the roll and should have it as a tank dinosaur anyway. Stegs are arguably as important as the Slann. When you picked Lizardmen, It was probably because you either liked the Slann or the Steg. 8th had it right, LM should be able to fit a steg anywhere in their list, aside from core. It's versatility was one of it's strengths. It didn't need a buff. I would certainly trade that buff for it's versatility back. Until reading their "9th" version, I figured the natural progression was going to be to have the baby steg mountable by a hero, and mountable by the slann.

This book doesn't feel like a 9th edition. More like a version 7.9. It's missing things. Like the designers ignored the past books, the fluff, and the players. It's like AoS again. The betrayal doesn't cut as deep, but it's there.

The thing to remember is that these changes are just to tide us over until they can go book by book. They have been taking a lot of feedback, and you can find things in these changes that were a direct result of our feedback.

So, if you don't like something, leave feedback on the site. Hopefully we will have a great army book to look forward to.

I don't really think it's my place. I doubt I'll be playing it at all. I was just floored to see the designers miss the basics of what makes Lizardmen, Lizardmen.
Also, I just mentioned the two big LM blasphemies involving the two biggest show pieces of our army. I'm sure they've gotten sufficient feedback regaurding the two already.

At a beta launch, I imagine they would have a pretty good feel for how the game plays and all the armies and just need to do some tweaking here and there. I'd be shocked to find out that they plan to do much more to each army before release on top of balancing.

Wait.. They messed the Slann up which needs to be fixed and made all other monsters 100% much more viable and yet they're betraying us? Woah there buddy, your entitled to your own opinion, but almost everything else is now usable. I'm iffed about Ripperdactyls, but overall we gained more than we lost. Our monsters can now safely be used.

Also the notes at the bottom of each army clearly states that they're not done implementing units, items and rules.

The only time they truly messed up is with the Slann and sure it's not fitting with the lore, but they hardly ruined the entire lore because of this. But apparently it is okay to forget the good things. Saurus Warriors rerolling 1s is more in line with them being created for War, the Bastiladon now have an effective weapon on top which was what the fluff said. We also now have a true Carnosaur apex predator with insane stats.

Also they've already said they're bringing in members from the community to look at the book. They needed the Ravening Hordes out the door so accompany the rest if you're seriously suggesting theyre unwilling to change things based on feedback (Slann, Stegadon) you really haven't followed how much they've added from the community and much they're willing to listen.

Besides they're only few people doing this. I can accept slip-ups like these, which is why, again, they're bringing in more people to help them.

guuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuys

"Note from authors Please note that this army list is a temporary solution, a place holder for until the army gets a properly updated armybook (with new units, extended magic item lists, more advanced rules, and so on)."

This is just hints. Its a beta.
I think this looks promising for a first draft!

.......not counting that Razordons have gotten from "ok" to "........no......NOOOOOOO!"

BS3
Multipleshots (2D6) ...meaning BS2 before any other modifiers.....

Oh yeah I didn't think about it in that way. The Razordon keep being a mystery for everyone haha.

oh oh oh!!!
Skinks might not have poison on javelins anymore!
BUT!

  • Skink Hunters
  • Strength 3
  • All models may replace blowpipe with Javelins and shields (free)
  • Javelin: Range 12”, Strength (as user+1), Quick to Fire.

    NOT a bad substitute!

I just wish blowpipes had BS4 or maybe quick to fire. I'd prefer BS4 .______.

And yeah wyssans Wildform on those and we're looking at S5. Javelins actually hit as hard as the razordon now haha.

So the O&G players are very disappointed with what they received so here's the answer from one of the developers:

Ok everybody. Time to get your anonymous masks on and destroy theirs site with a looot of feedback to the 9th guys about us wanting our slann back! And other things like steggy back in special (even only 1 model in special would do a great deal for me personally). :D
