Well, just ensure something else engages the character with the sword.

The cool thing about characters is you can scatter them out of the unit if it looks like something scary is inbound.

Here's what I was thinking. Instead of focusing your list on it, what if you just had one unit full of chiefs and supported by the rest of the list? I am unsure of how to best set up the chiefs magic equipment-wise, but I think this is a fun yet balanced list. BTW, savage beasts gives you 30 str 7 attacks at initiative 6 from the chiefs followed by 9 str 7 attacks from the kroxigors.

Uh, Guys you realise that if you give Skink Chiefs Light Armour Shield and Blowpipe they're easy to field, you can field ten in 2000 points or twelve in 2400 points and just for more fun, Heroes can make their own unit, so you can have in a 3200 point game as an example you can have; a Saurus on Carnosaur a Slann and 16 Skink Chiefs in one unit and you cast Savage Beasts on the UNIT followed by Panns Pelt and probably Wyssans Wildform for good measure and nothing will stand in your way so you can get right to this:
