hi there, after a long break i will soon play my first 8th edition games. i will face skaven and imperium

i tried to put together a list and i've got a lot of doupts and questions...

Scar Vet
+ - Sreat Weapon
- Shield

10 Skink Skirmishers

15 Saurus Warriors
- Standard

5 Chamäleonskinks

1 Salamander
Extra Herder

Thats 481 points so far...

My basic question is if it would be better to take a skink priest instead of the scar vet. Does a list without magic even work?

Does the list make sense at all? The scar vets equipment is bad and there are only 19 points left. what changes do i need?
should i use the same list against the skaven and imperium or are there some specific changes to make?

thank you for heping a noob

List aint to bad, mate. The sallie will be worth it's wait in gold and the chameleons is gonna be a real pain for war machines and heavy gun lines. Just make sure to position them correctly, Like run the sallie on a flank so the template can hit as much as possible and scout the chamelions somewere out of harms way but still so they can take down vital opposistion asap.

What I wanna say is this, if you plan on running a scar-vet against empire and skaven you should simply ax him out with a good Armour save and loads of attacks. Like this: Scarvet + light armour, enchanted sheild(5p). With this he is 95p and has his basic 4 attacks and a 2+ armour save. Becuse of point restriction you can't buy any more attacks unless you drop the sheild. And you don't need the great weapon, with strenght 5 he will be wounding most troops on a 2+ anyway.

You don't have to have magic in your list, but if you wanna you can ofc bring a skink preist. If you do this you can either upgrade him to lvl 2 or buy him plaque of tepok (15p) which let him learn one more spell. lvl 2 does this also and lets him cast spells mor efficiently but coast 35p

The charachter choice is this, with the scar-vet you got a good solid leader capable of doing alot of damage.
The preist on the other hand is a bit of a gamble, magic is rearly reliable is such small games and sense you only have a few spells to cast they sometimes don't have any major impact on the game at all. Don't get me wrong, magic can be great aswell, the main issue here is that in such a small game you have nowere to put the preist. On his own he is a sitting duck for shooting and putting him in the saurus/skink block will just lead up to him getting into combat, and toughness 2 is gonna spell doom for him either way.

My personal opinion, take a scar-vet, but fell free to take a chance on a preist if you like. rest of the list looks pretty solid.

Good luck,mate:D

You can put a priest in the unit of skirms, the priest whill then become a skirm himself too.

Agree on the Scar-Vet, use him instead of a priest.

Wow, thanks a lot for this detailed answer. I'm really thankful because I'm quite new to warhammer.

So it will be:

Scar-Vet
Light Armour, Enchanted Shield

15 Saurus Warriors
Standard Bearer

10 Skink-Skirmishers

5 Chameleon Skinks

1 Salamander with extra Herder

284 points so far

So i have 16 points left an could buy:

Saurus, full command
Saurus, spears instead of handweapon
Chameleon, add 1
Skinks, add 2

what would you suggest?

I agree that the list is quite solid. I would take the priest myself because I like the magics that we can bring. I would also probably take skrox instead of saurus. But, that is just me.

Your list should do well at 500 points. That salamander will utterly destroy most of your opponents. The chameleons will also earn their points.

I would take the full command group.

With spears you can fight with one more rank (if you don't charge!), but you loose the parry save.

I never take spears. I feel that spears have been nerfed pretty heavily in 8th. I would much rather have a ward (parry) save.

I'm with Arli on that one. Spears are ok, but an extra rank of attacks is only worth the points if you have enough models in the unit. With only 15 saurus, you'll start to lose the benefit of spears as soon as you take a casualty. You'd be much better off sticking with HW+Shield in the unit imo.

I make the last list printed 492 points, so only 8 left.

I'd swap the Enchanted Shield for a normal shield and the Dragon Helm. Gives you the same Armour Save, a 2+ ward against flaming attacks and is 2pts cheaper (hey, at 500pts they all count...)

One thing to consider is that your Scar-vet will be striking last against most skaven opponents anyway due to only having initiative of 3, so you might consider a Great Weapon incase you hit something tough; a doomwheel or the likes. Tho this will reduce your save from a 2+ to a 3+...

will he play a doomwheel at 500 points?

should i play the Scar-vet alone or put him into the saurus?

Run him in the saurus block, his extra attacks is your heaviest unit will be a great help

Did you use the cost for the enchanted shield in our army book? Because its 15 there and 5 in the BRB. You have to always use the costs listed in the army books unfortunately.

But yeah, nice list, I'd sure take the scar vet. You maybe could drop the spears, I doubt they'll do much good tbh, and with the scar vet in there you should really be bringing the hurt anyway.

You could use those leftover points to give the scar vet a potion of speed or strength?

Good luck with the list, It looks great!
