8th Ed. 500 point list to start an escalation league

Hey lustria, hasn't been playing for a while since I've been playing warmachine/hordes, but my LGS is starting a fantasy escalation league, so I'm breaking the lizardmen out again and it will go over 4 months with the point levels going from 500 to 1000 to 1500 to 2000. So here's my 500 point list!

Heroes:
Skink priest lvl 1 with plaque of tepok and dispel scroll - 105

Core:
20 Saurus warriors w/ hand weapon and shield w/ banner and musician - 238

10 skink skirmishers with javelins and shields - 80

Rare:
Salamander - 75

Plaque of Tepok and Dispell Scroll are both Arcane Items, so you can't have both on a Skink Priest. You might want to consider swapping the Skink Priest for a Scar-Vet. You'd have to lose a few Saurus to pull it off, but most armies have a tough time with strong units with good armor saves.

To clarify, what is meant by the term 'escalation league'? I know the points value of games increases but an extended description would be greatly received.

(Goes into a daydream...) The days when my Scar Veteran could move 18" and take units out on his own, I ruled the 500 points level, there was no Step Up, no steadfast... (suddenly sits upright)

Anyway, er... yes, your list is good but you don't really need the Diadem of Power at 500 points, in fact, a Skink Priest isn't worth taking at such a low points level. Here's a suggested list, slightly different to yours:

Scar-Veteran, Fencer's Blades, Light Armour = 125 pts
17 Saurus Warriors, Banner, Musician = 205 pts
11 Skink skirmishers, javelins = 88
1 Salamander, extra handler = 80 pts

For 125 points, you get 5 S5 attacks at WS 10.

I think I'll use your list just have to convert a Saurus to have 2 swords and some character bits. Trying to remember, I still can dispel without a wizard, right?

Yep. You don't get a dispel bonus, but you can still dispel.

Scarvet w/Cold One, Light Armor, Halberd, Venom of the Firefly Frog
18 Saurus Warriors with Standard Bearer w/ Banner of Eternal Flame and Musician (scarvet goes inside here)
Skink skirmishers x10
Skink skirmishers x10


That basically give you a single block that will destroy any other 500 point block in the game, plus two light skirmishing/shooting units to make sure you get into that combat.

To clarify escalation league will go up 500 points every month and you can play up to 7 league games per month

The Scar Veteran will not get Look Out Sir! rolls and Saurus Warriors cannot have magic banners. If only they hadn't taken out that brilliant item which gave us a 9" move (or in 8th Edition, a 16" average charge range!).

Good catch on the banner. That said, not sure how important LOS is in 500 points, and the 2+ CO armor save is pretty awesome.
