Hey guys,

We just had an earthquake. I knwo that there are a few of us who work/live in the area. I worked from home today and my house shook for about 15 seconds. Very wierd.

I hope everyone else is ok.
 
Yea it was centered in Mineral VA.
I definately felt it on this side of the bay as well.
 
Didn't feel it here though we're a few states away from NY. Hope everyone is safe!
 
Yea I know it was pretty lame...

Oh yea we are in for a hurricane this weekend. :p
 
It was weak. We just don't have that kind of thing around here. If any of you watched CNN and saw Wolfe Blitzer reporting, I work in the building connected to the CNN building by a lobby. The CNN building suffered structural damage. They shut down both buildings immediately.
 
Wow those photos look pretty rough... I might have to send some aid over.

I've lived through a few small earthquakes, actually slept through the odd one as well.. When I lived in Tonga in the Pacific, we used to get tremors fairly often.
 
I was on the 7th floor of my office building. It was pretty darn cool looking out the window and seeing the building shifting. Also cool was the fact that they couldnt get a building inspector in for 4 hours so we all got to go home early for the day.
 
I worked from home yesterday so I missed all the excitement. I have a friend who works in DC, it took him 5 hours to get home.
 
oooh that sucks. I think it took me like an extra 30 minutes or so, but alot of that was just getting out of my parking garage.

A little late chimin' in here but I was at work yesterday and we were on a conference call with Seattle... all of a sudden the building starts to shake... our chairs are moving, the table is moving... and I say, "Umm, Seattle, I think we're experiencing an earthquake..." They start freaking out asking if we're ok, are we sure, etc, etc. It went on for about a solid minute and we evacuated the building as it was going on... Got outside and it was kind of a humorous sight to see every single person trying use their cell phone. It was my first earthquake experience. Kinda cool and freaky at the same time... My 2 coppers.
 
Talking to the guys in the building today, that was one of the things mentioned several times. They thought it funny that everyone was trying to use their phones.

I was in Brunswick, MD (North West from DC, next to Frederick, MD) and 30 seconds or so after it stopped, the cell service and land lines were down. My blackberry would call anywhere except into this area. Phone (land line and cell) did not start working until about 3:30.
 
I was sitting in the garage having my car's brakes inspected and didn't feel a bloody thing...perhaps I should have my butt inspected next time? When I got back to the office everyone was like "did you feel the earthquake?" I had no idea. I did read that there are cracks at the top of the Washington Monument today and it may be closed indefinitely. Glad I visited and took the elevator to the top back in 2008.
