Hi i am new to lizardmen and warhammer fantasy and have decided to write an army list. i am planning on buying 3 battallions, 2 stegadons a slaan mage priest and an extra 10 temple guard. if i should buy anything else or not buy something please let me know. any help is greatly appreciated.

Lords:
Slaan mage priest
2 disciplines

divine plaque of protection
skavenpelt banner

380

Heroes:
Skink priest
ancient steggadon

355

Core:

40 saurus warriors
full command

470

10 skink skirmishers

70

10 skink skirmishers

70

10 skink skirmishers

70

6 skink skirmishers

45

Special:

40 temple guard
full command

675

20 cold ones
full command

740

This leaves me with 130 points left over. Please advise me on how to spend them. thanks

Hi welcome to lizardmen!

I wouldn't buy another box of TG for their points they are expensive. 30 is more than enough for most lists. Instead i would buy 2-4 Salamander hunting packs. They are invaluable! I like skinks personally so I'd buy 1 more box of them giving you 50. Convert 10-20 of them into chameleon skinks (saves a ton of money) as cham skinks are awesome as well. So that gives you 60 Saurus, 30 TG, 30 norm skinks, 20 cham skinks, 2 Stegs, 4 sallies, a Slann and heaps of Cold One Riders (a tad expensive points wise, but can be made to work). From your 2 steg packs u get 2 Skink Priests, 2 Skink Chiefs. Model a few CoR as mounted scar vets and your set. Only thing I'd add is some kroxigors and some Terradons for variety later on.

All the best.

Well mitch, you nailed that one.

The list looks alright, Not a lot of people really like cav, but they can work, although I would split them into 2 units of 10, that way you make use of more attacks and another unit on the board.

Definitely get some salamanders as they absolutely rule, and same goes for the chameleon skinks

The slann cant take the Skavenpelt banner unfortunately, its a skink only item :/ I would take the standard of discipline on him instead, its cheaper and makes your inspiring presence LD10

As for the 150 points left over (now you cant have the skavenpelt banner)

EDIT* That 150 points is a rough guess, I dont have my book to hand :D

I personally would give the slann a 3rd discipline. In 2k I run with Rumination, mystery and Cognition and he needs Cupped Hands Of The Old Ones now! Throwing a miscast on an enemy wizard is just awsome!!!

Other than that, it seems good, If you have enough room, you might want to squeeze in a Scar vet for the Saurus squad, just for a boost of attacks :)

Welcome to the board, Gunning for 3k is ambitious! I like that! :D

Thanks guys i will take out 10 cold ones and 10 temple guard, and i will add in a steggy,3 salamanders, 2 disciplines, and a few more skinks.
Thankyou so mul ch for all your help and for making me feel so welcome

hey not to ruin your list but its kinda illegal......

these following things you need to do
you cant have a unit of skrimishers beneath the unit size of 10. you should put the 6 into one of the units of 10
the skavenpelt banner cannot be taken by other bsb`s than skink chieftains and he is too vulnerable.

now for advice. you really should follow them!

40 tg is waaay too much max at 26.

40 saurus can be fun but not a thing thats going to win any games for you instead take 2 units of 25.

36 skink skirms is also too much maybe take 20 and then some chameleon skinks.

20 cold ones is way way waaaay too much in one army and then in one unit thats outrageous. cap at 10 in one unit you could take 2x10 but NOT 20 in one unit

plaque of protection wont do a difference when in the tg

imo the improved list

Lords:
Slaan mage priest
focus of mystery (+1 dice per spellcast its a must take)
Focused rumination (loremaster/knows all spells in his chosen lore this is really good if you want to be sure to use your slann`s full potential)
bsb
Standard of dicipline (+1 ld another must take you see in every good list)
lore of life (without cupped hands this is yet another must take)
365

Heroes :

Scar-vet
Light A
Crown of command (stubborn will be needed in cavalry!)
Dragon helm (gives you a 2+ vs flaming and +1 armour save)
Luck stone (single reroll on your 1+ armour save its almost like getting another wound)
Cold one
Great weapon (as his unit is probably going against monsters the additional s is critical)
166
You can field him alone and race him into a huge pricy horde and hold em up until help arives. or go with the cold ones and steadily beat unit after unit. or beat up the monsters that no other unit in the army can.

Scar-vet
Light A
Enchanted shield
Piranha blade (double wounds for chalenges remember to allways challenge unit champs)
140
goes with tg.

Core:

25 saurus warriors
full command
305

25 saurus warriors

305

10 skink skirmishers
70

10 skink skirmishers
70

Special:

25 temple guard
full command
435

10 chameleon skinks
120

10 chameleon skinks
120

9 cold ones
full command
banner of eternal flame (flaming attacks can be game winning against many opponents. besides the banner is really cheap!)
375

ancient stegadon

salamander

salamander

total 2996

Good points. The only changes that I would recommend to Vict's post would be to drop a few points somewhere (probably in saurus) to make the salamander units 2 units of 2. No need for extra handlers as they share the handler.

Thank you so much victo. that is really helpfull and i really appreciate it. that seems like a very strong list and i will deffinatley field it. i am a bit confuzed as to what lore i should choose, i know that life and light are the obvious ones, but i have seen some successfull battle reports with different lores, any advice on this would be hepfull.

you should definitely take lore of life because it has a spell that makes you ignore miscasts ,and if there is anything an lm player hates its to loose a slann, and especially if he kills himself. there is another option and thats cupped hands but you dont need both.
More sallies would def. be a win and in the first edition of the list, i had 4. But turns out i miss calcuated and had to take away some points. and that was the salamanders, but as they are one of lms most point effective units, more of them would be very good.
