Tournament next month does not allow special characters. Here is the list I was thinking of taking. Please let me know what you think, and how you think I could improve the list. The main thing I wanted to accomplish is make it as close to "All Comers" as I could. I think Loremaster High Magic will help tremendously with that.

I cut out the chameleon skinks and my other "War Machine" hunters, because Ive found that they are so easy to counter in tournament play. Instead my plan is to be aggressive and use speed to get up the board and into combat quickly to negate these shots. I expect to take 1 round of shooting and hopefully weather it without taking too much damage.

Looks like a pretty standard list! Keep in mind that the Charmed Shield will only be helpful against missile hits, as you can't use a shield in close combat while wielding a great weapon. That said, the 2+ negation of the first hit will still work. Just the armor bonus wont be there.

In a tournament you'll be going against some tough foes. Against a disciplined player, I'd expect to take at least 2 rounds of shooting.

That's a tough one. I'd always say that if you can't use a shield at the time of being hit, you can't get its ability. I'd still take the shield so that you can fob off the first cannonball. But i'd still think that you can't fob off the first hit in combat with it.

Nor would I want to. I'd rather save it for the cannonball

That's the way I was told to play it ages ago... Although after reading through the rules again I'm not so sure. It says first hit; but if it's not being utilized then how can you be hit for the first time again? It's never been an issue at my local club and usually everybody tries to knock it off with some BS shooting anyway, but now I'm curious to know which way everybody else plays it.

I don't know. In my experience it's always been a cannonball hits my rider and I charm it away. Never had the thing when I got into combat.
